Hi all,
I have been debating between subs in the $300-$400 range suggested by many on this forum (Emotiva, Lava, Hsu, ect). Amazon is having a sale on the Pinnacle Speakers SUB-SONIX 10-Inch sub; it'll likely be under $200 in the lightning deal later today. Can anyone comment on this sub? Having a hard time finding reviews on than the ones on Amazon, which are all positive.

It's actually $170...anyone had experience with their subs? They also have a nice deal on a KEF right now-- under $300.

Pinnacle's are OK, but their bread and butter is making small subs for WAF reasons. Many of their subs are cheaply made and really dont extend down that far. With so many ID companies now, Pinnacle is back of the closet as far as choices go.

However, for $170, i don't see why not. But don't expect much below 30Hz.

EDIT: Amazon lists "bass in the mid-20Hz range", but Pinnacle's website says different.

* Variable Crossover 50-150 Hz
* Volume Control
* Designed in the USA
* 2 Year Transferable Limited Warranty On Amplifier
* 7 Year Transferable Limited Warranty On Parts & Labor For The Rest Of The System

System Type: 4th Order Bottom Vented for maximum bass output

Component Driver: 10" heavyweight fibercone woofer with butyl surround, 1 1/2” voice coil & 26 oz magnet

I bit on this also... I'll compare it side by side with my velodyne impact 10 which is a very similar class sub... I think/hope the amp on the pinnacle might have a little more UMPH.. we'll see. Either way I will use one of my two subs on the main setup and one in the bedroom. heck of a deal on this one if it turns out to be good.. the one review on amazon by an audio video guy seemed positive.. so finger's crossed, eh?

I also purchased this sub from amazon because I was looking for a sub under $200 and this one seemed like a good deal. I am really looking forward to your comparison r3v3nant, because if this sub rates out below expectations, i'm going to return it and keep waiting for the BIC F12 to drop below $200. If anyone else can comment on this sub, please do so.

well now... mr fedex dropped it off a little more than an hour ago.. right off the bat it's got more balls than my velodyne did... letting it break in with some creed.. I don't see a vent anywhere on mine.. hmmm.. sounds good though..

edit: in the manual it says "if your cabinet is bottom vented then you must install the isolation cones..." so I guess I got the unvented version.. hrm... still seems to move some air well enough..

impact-10

I have suspected for a while that my impact-10 might be faulty or not quite right in some way... but this new sub right away just woke the room up with bass in a way that the velo never did..

it's a big room... well, long with a vaulted ceiling... the impact-10 might not been enough sub for the room.. anyways, the pinnacle still sounds good.. but I am a little tipsy.. I'll have to test with more movies this weekend..

this pinnacle has some serious power but my cabinet is not vented.. none the less it's got some serious punch while movie watching and also music listening.. going to keep it on the main system and move the impact to the bedroom..

it's breaking in more now and I am playing with my amp's line out adjustments... this sub has some serious punch for it's size.. it's a different sound than the velodyne was and more powerful for sure.. I put a heavy house plant on the top of it because the thing vibrated like a washing machine on spin cycle... for $166 I am extremely happy with it. totally random and cool holiday deal.. fun! Anyone else try theirs out yet?

Just got my Sub in today from amazon. For some reason UPS didn't deliver at all over the holiday weekend. r3v3nant, where is your sub located? Do you have it stuck in a corner or about 2ft away from the wall? Can't wait to hook mine up and just wondering where the best place to position it would be!

Hi - mine is to the left of my mains (BIC DV64s) about a foot to the left of the left main about 2 feet from the corner of the room.. it's a kind of narrow but long room, which is the main living space in our house which ends up at an open kitchen which I can view and hear the system from very well from.. which is nice while I am cooking. the sub is only a few inches from the wall because the distance to the couch is only 5 feet or so.. anyways.. seems like this sub gets louder by the day... had to turn the line level from the amp down two more notches for normal TV listening tonight..

I'm very curious to hear how others feel about this sub..

on placement, they say putting it near a corner is best, but it's not always possible... I think trying it in different locations and running tests is the best way to find the sweet spot for it.. kind of a pain, but hard to tell what's going to work until you put it in a spot and test it.

Curious also, it seems the sub I bought (Digital Sub 100) is the same sub with only a 100 Watt Amp. It's been sitting in the box for two months waiting for me to finish my basement remodel. If I ever get the basement done, I'll be happy to post my thoughts but at the rate I'm going it could be well into the new year.

any updates from anyone? I am wondering about if you all got the ported or unported version... mine is unported for sure.

Thats more or less exactly what it is. Mine is the 125 watt version.

As stated, this sub doesn't do anything under 30Hz, FWIW. And they are OK for music, although they arent great.

That will make my neighbors happy. I figured for the price I would give it a try and if it wasn't that great I would put it in my living room and replace the crappy 8" sub that's hooked up to a Polk Audio sound bar and grab the Emotiva Ultra sub.

depends on the music you are playing.. for stuff like Creed and Linkin Park the sub sounds good.. but for some of the electronic stuff I listen to it's almost too much.. it gets "boomy"... for the price I paid I am fine with it... but I might go back to my 15" definitive after all of this... just hope it doesn't bug the neighbors.
