Hello,

Recently i bought a Dynex 200 watt stereo and it came with a 50 watt 5in sub which is a peice of junk. The bass is really bad I was wondering if buying a different sub like a selfpowered 150 watt or larger would make a difference in the sound quality or is the lack of bass just a result of the cheap receiver and i shouldnt waste money with a new sub? -thanks

Dynex (AKA Best Buy's brand from China) is pretty much bottom of the barrel IMO. If it were me, I'd return the whole system and at least spring for a Sony HTIB over that. Don't waste a dime trying to make that Dynex sound any better. I think most people here will tell you to build your audio system little by little based on what you can afford. Start with a receiver (like Onkyo or Denon) and get two nice speakers (maybe a couple Polks). Then save up a little more and buy a decent sub (BIC perhaps) and some surround speakers.

I searched your Dynex, it's what is considered Home Theater in a Box, or HTIB.

I have no experience with anything like that, but my first question is does the amplifier piece have any type of output you can access, be it speaker level (speaker cable), or line level (RCA or phono connectors).

If so, you could purchase an inexpensive BIC sub, or equivalent, and the LF improvement would be dramatic....maybe. Maybe, because I've got no idea wrt the LF performance of the base unit of your HTIB.

You could eventually chuck the whole thing, ...and get a HT receiver and start over,....which you'll need to do as soon as it's feasable,..IMO.

Yes, Denon/Onkyo, HSU bookshelves(never heard 'em, but at the price, they appear very solid), BIC or Lava sub.

HSU also has some nice packages, at various levels of performance.

Good luck

Thanks for the quick respones. To FOH, the amplifier has speaker lines out and an Active line out-- not exactly sure if that answers your question. And im on a pretty tight budget so anything that could make it sound better without ditching would be the goal here.
