Just a little note on the current topic to clarify:

I wrote "
This beast gives you the most boom for your buck." Not "best value" or "best bang", which indicate an overall assessment. "Most boom" is specific to output capability per dollar.

Like Jed pointed out, "best value" or "best bang" for your buck is going to vary depending on how you personally perceive the value of each sub's strengths and weaknesses in relationship to its purchase price, so we were careful not to make that statement.

Cellphone? That's just about as outdated as watches. It's a mobile device. Just added another few of apps. One buys coffees, another reads bar codes and provides all product information. And my new favorite listens to a tune playing anywhere and tells you what it is. Jean-Luc would be jealous.

Although I'd trade both my theaters for a Holodeck.

I still wear some of my watches on occasion like fancy jewelry. Since no one ever asks for the time, they never notice none of them are working and all need batteries.

I don't know how you can say that!?!

That's a very subjective comment. Some people describe the sound they hear from their subwoofer as a 'Boom' while others a 'Bang'. While Boom for the Buck may be represenative of how you describe it, it most certainly can be described as Bang for the Buck as well. In fact, if you measured the FR response when you say Bang versus Boom, I bet you'll find that Bang has a flatter response.

Bang and boom are clearly distinct. For example, in my younger days I banged many hot chicks (admittedly, some were not that hot, but I digress).

Never once did I boom one

I had two amp failures from eD subwoofers FYI... and I also blew 2 drivers. Not sure who is keeping score or why as the numbers would be totally unreliable, but I'd have to assume that the dayton amp is a solid product as it is a product that is sold in volume.

I'm of the opinion that an 18.1 and an eD a7s-450 are very comparable products from reviews and speculation alone. I loved the review that these guys put together and for the most part it's due to their honesty as well as putting some perspective on these subs... they all seem to be pretty comparable from alot of aspects including price. I would purchase whichever one my wife liked best as they most likely would sound pretty comparable in my theater room and I'd be happy knowing that as well as my wife got to pick

When referring to subs, I've heard "boom" "thump" and "dig". Never "bang".

The term "bang for the buck", in English, is best known as a phrase for value and if used in this context is a general statement about the sub and its features, not solely the bass quality.

Well I just got done watching Iron Man 2 again. I watched it before with my eD A5-325 and it sounded pretty good but this time I listened with the Rythmik and the Empire.............Holy #%@$! There's not a lot of low bass in the movie but still it's relentless and the fly-by scene is crazy! The two subs actually played nice together. It was the first time I played two of them together so it surprised me a little. One of these days I'll hook them all up. I think next up will be HTTYD or WOTW.

Yup. It's a custom made sub. It uses a single 13" driver from the A7s-650 with the LT 500 amp in a white enclosure and grille. It sounds great. Not an output machine but it more than makes it's presence felt. It's actually a plant stand haha.

LOL...! I've used a sub or 2 over the years like that as a plant stand to, they can be pretty good for that. Sounds like a cool little sub.

I actually ordered an A5S-325 from ED on a whim, since they where out of stock on the A5S-300. I figured I might as well see what else I could get that would fit in the same space and give more boom. I expect I should get it within the week.

Madaeel - Can you comment on how the 13" sounds compared to eD's 18 inch beast? Is your 325 ported or sealed?

I'll have mine paired up with a set of Magnepan's in the bedroom, used mostly for music, some games with the occasional movie or two.

I will be sure to post some pictures and impressions of the sub as soon as I get it. Sadly, I only have a Klipsch KSW-12 and PA PSW650 to compare it too. I've got test tones and a ratshack digital SPL meter waiting to put it through some paces.

Lastly, thanks again to Madaeel and below90 for the awesome review. Cant wait to see more from you two.

We have to make some sacrifices as husbands and boyfriends right? Yah I love my eD sub. That's why I always say no matter what you think of eD you have to be impressed with how many different subs they make and that they do custom work. Beautiful custom work. My wife loves our sub. Actually eD made it for HER not me. She chose the dimensions. She loves the Empire because of the inert cabinet. It was pretty cool to see the drivers pounding away and the plant not even move. I think a submersive would look great under the plant.*

Ethan thinks the 13" driver is more accurate with not as much overhang as the 18", and though I agree I don't feel it's by a wide margin. The 18" driver sounds great. However, the A7s-450 absolutely crushes the A5-325 in output which is to be expected. Mine is sealed but I'll bet a ported version would be a monster. I would love to hear the P7-650. Hmmm that would make for a nice $2000 sub shootout contestant. I can't wait to see what you think of your sub.
