I think you would be better off integrating with the same sealed drivers and not mix in ported. But, you'd probably be better off putting the .2 in back to control independently from the front soundstage, since the Dayton is single channel. What I saw for sale is a very good deal, and will augment your system much better than the HSU.

I wonder how the CS18.2 would do turned on its side, that way it would not be an eyesore behind my couch/head.

I agree. I believe that ported subs have a 180 degree phase change at the frequencies produced by the port (at the tuning frequency). When combined with sealed subs you will get reduced output at these frequencies.

Are both subs located in the same position now, or are they separated? While it is not the most economical solution, if this does present tuning problems, I know of at least one CS-18.T owner that purchased another Dayton amp to tune both subs differently. You may find that it isn't a problem at all. The more subs you spread around, the less EQ you are likely to need.

It will work fine, as long as the drivers have a few inches to breathe. While experimenting, I fired my CS-18.T's into the side walls. One driver was 3 1/2" from the wall. It pounded the room and I had 2 visits from the police. Guess it was pounding a neighbor's house, too. I ended up moving them back where they were.

someone locally is selling the rythmik FV15HP with the optional 600 wpc amp for $1100. Jump on it? Heard the CHT 18" locally & liked it. Never heard the rythmik, but he said he would do a demo for me. He bought 2 & only needs one. Somehow I believe it. Kinda on the pricey side still, but I guess a good price. Normally $1150 plus shipping.

correction: It's the F15HP- sealed not vented. Any opinions?

I'd offer him $900 and see what he says, if he stays firm, pull out $1000 cash and hold your ground.

Well Rythmik is located at 9705 Burnet Rd. #315 Austin, TX 78758. The F15HP (w/the 600W amp is $1149 in black oak and shipping for you would be $76. But unfortunately you would have to pay tax, $101. So that total would come to $1,326.06, shipped to you. (It would cost $65.06 less to ship to me in KY because of no tax, but higher shipping, BTW.)

But if you went with the 550W amp then that F15HP would go for $1,244.88 shipped to you..

If you buy two, Rythmik gives you a discount (10% off the purchase price of the subs I believe). So two black oak F15HP's with the 600W amp shipped to you would cost $2,431.30, or $1215.65 each.

If the guy loses 30% off what he paid you would give him $850...$900 being 26% off.

I think you need to find out what kind of finish it has. (I'm sure it wasn't a Rythmik CI project (a diy), right?

I think you need to find out if the warranty transfers over.

You need to find out if it would work in your room, of course.

He has to come down from "msrp". You would be the one with any risk involved.

Demo and offer $800. Finish at $900. Well, actually, IDK where you should finish at to be honest. IDK (not real sure why I did so much research here...maybe it helps).

Ethan and Adam,

Listen to this song and tell us which sub sounds best for this particular song!

Probably the best song I've ever heard for bass! (at least that is still an actual song and not a bass demo track that you can't enjoy listening to)

well, between the rythmick fv15hp and the hsu vtf 15h i ended up buying a submersive hp.

in other news, i am also buying a monster truck because the parking spot takes too long to get to by driving around other cars instead of driving over them.

one weird thing, i set all my speakers to small and my LFE and speaker crossovers at 80hz, the sound is great.

Thing is when i sit down, i lose that perfect pressure point the sub produces and when i am down on the couch's ear level, it seems much more "thin".

When i stand up its perfect (im 6ft). it seems very weird, no idea what would fix it. Bump up the gain?

There's really no way to say. Too many variables involved (including personal taste) to say there's a best sub for that song. It is a cool song though. I was like, "meh" until it got about a minute into it, then I started likin it.

Quit readin my signature ya stupid signature reader.

I know right --

You get to :54 and the deep deep deep bass lick hits - from there it's all involuntary enjoyment. I just fired it up on my computer speakers and the 5" Altec Lansing sub does this song absolutely ZERO justice - anyone who doesn't enjoy this song must not be playing it on the right equipment
This song begs to be played on high quality deep hitting subs!

Probably not. BTW 4 of them would get me past 130 db's so 8 are not needed. PM me as I don't want to get off thread but thought that my cs subs for sale would be of interest in this thread as I personally think they would be better than any of the subs tested here and for the same or less money.

What are you trying to say exactly? Bass I Love You was one of the best written songs of our generation and I believe was even nominated for a Grammy in the "Best Song to Destroy your Subwoofer" category. I'll try to check it out this weekend. I really do want to listen to some various artists on the subs, but I find myself watching movies more since when I do have the time to listen to them there's something new out on Blu Ray. Tron sounded amazing on the Rythmik and A5-325!

Try moving the sub since you might be in a null when seated. Either that or maybe when you get the Submersive it's configuration/location might help change that as well. I'm dying to hear one so let us know what you think.

The Empire is an amazing sub. If it fits your needs then yes it would be the way to go. It went pretty low for a sealed sub in my open living room, and I've been using it as my main sub for the past couple months and I'm even more impressed with it. It also is the smallest of the bunch if that's a factor.

Yeah I want something that plays deep but can also keep up with music as I listen to live DVD concerts quite frequently. I currently have an Infinity PS312 which is defective, so I'll be returning that. I assume the Empire will outplay it both in SQ and SPL.

Initially, I was all for the HSU as it seemed to perform very well according to Ethan and Adams review, and seems to get almost consistently good feedback. Then I came across the review, and Re-review, on Audioholics which was enough to force me to consider other options. I was scared off by the claims that the sub didn't perform well in the low end (<25-30Hz), and that it was more or less a sloppy/bloated sound. At $879, which is $120 less than the Rythmik, perhaps this slight price difference implies that there is some truth to these negative claims? After all, the old saying "you get what you pay for" typically holds true, especially with electronics.

So, I started checking out the Rythmik FV15. I haven't found a truly negative review on this sub. Overall, after reading multiple reviews, it seems as though the Rythmik has deep extension, tight bass, high output, and extremely clean sound. haven't really read anything remotely negative....which actually worries me because nothing is perfect, and certainly a subwoofer at $1000 is not perfect. So where are the shortcomings?

I'm pulling my hair out choosing between these two.

I'm having the same problem but mine is with the Empire and HSU. With 90% for moives i'm siding on the HSU yet they are out of stock. I could have the empire ASAP and save $80. I'm having a heck of a time choosing and size does not matter. Any help??

I called HSU last week and they said more would be shipping out Friday. So I placed an order for the black VTF-15H on Thursday and sure enough it shipped Friday. I don't think they have updated their site yet, give them a call, I bet they have more in stock.

Definately HSU IMO. The brothers stated that the HSU is the sub you feel the most. I've not heard the Epik, but it is a sealed usb, vs. the ported HSU. I'd gamble my Jamo D7 sealed 15" pair are simliar in preformance to the Epik Empire. I have heard the HSU and Jamo in the same room, and though the Jamo pair was 3dB louder than the HSU VTF-15H, the HSU was felt more.

I can't fathom anyone being unhappy with it.

Well, I just bought one of MK's CH18.2's. To refresh, that is one box w/ 1 18 inch subon each side (in effect 2 18 inch subs).

I will locate it directly behind my main listening area and then have my 2 CH 18's up front.

Have you heard of Jamos? They've got a great deal going now.

You don't need much since you already have 2 18's. All I needed was two off brand subs (cambridge soundworks psw1s) to really shake the couch and even out my response. The 18.2 would be way overkill IMO.

Dr. jitsu made the right choice. Instead of hoping to shake the couch, he is now assured of it.
