Anyone with a digital sub from Klipsch? Should I be using "punch" "depth" or "flat" mode for action movie watching??

I like "punch", but that's me and I'm sure my room's totally different. I also have a sub from a different line (RSW).

Judging from the names, heres what each will get you:

Punch: EQ boost probably around the 40-50Hz range.
Depth: Lower overall output, but greater extension into the low frequencies.
Flat: Flat response with no EQ applied.

It depends on personal preference. If you listen to music, you probably want punch. If you want to hear the lower frequency effects in movies, you may want depth. Flat would be the most natural response curve.

This sounds about right, and there's also "music/movie/night" settings as well. If you're listening/watching to a wide variety of sources you drive yourself a little crazy switching back and forth, or you can find a good overall setting and "set it and forget it."

Yep, I'm using a little higher volume and "depth" under my movie mode and less volume and flat for my "night" mode. Will run flat and do Audessey this afternoon to see what my Denon AVR puts the pass too. Thanks guys

I use the "set it and forget it" mode on flat. I just purchased a 2nd rw 12d when Newegg had it on sale. Both are set on flat at -18 on the subs and on Denon 3310 with level at -5. I am now a believer in dual subs. They sound awesome on both movies and music!

Here is a link to the Sound&Vision test of the RW-12D. It is part of a 5 sub shootout. The review of the RW-12D starts on page 4 and continues on page 5:

http://www.soundandvisionmag.com/art...ofers?page=0,3

This is about as good as you can do for $300.

For action movies if you don't have a separate eq device, use the depth setting. It gives a boost around the 30hz region. Punch boosts up the 60hz region. Flat gives no type of boost to any range. The movies, music and night settings can be saved when you personalize them to your taste. For example, when you select movies you can scroll thru the menu and select depth...then adjust the volume to a desired level...select a phase setting...then save your settings. Then you can go to the "music" setting and adjust those to your tastes. Do the same to your night settings. Then when you are watching a movie you can simply recall your settings by selecting "movie". When you listen to music you can recall the settings by selecting "music". The sub saves whatever you last had it on. I only use mine for movies so I never touch the top panel controls. It might sound a little complicated the way I explained it but once you start using it, it is very simple.

So I gotta be honest....I "upgraded" to the RW-12D from a HTIB Infinity 8" sub (yes, 8") and the difference is indiscernable. seriously. I am so disappointed. Apparently folks were right about shelling out the extra $$ for a REAL sub.

What did you do? Search for all the RW-12D threads and are going to post the same whine in everyone?

You're not going to get any help doing cr@p like that.

There good subs for Movies/Games, and for rap music, but not so much for rock.
