Looking at a spectragram, that Lucy tune actually has some pretty strong sub 30 Hz content, very unusual for music.

Let's see who can find the bass drops.

This song is not a bass heavy song, but it has more than one infrasonic bass drop hidden through out the song. See how many you can find! Happy hunting!

Yes, very deep content throughout the film, but my subs drop off below 10hz. How low is it in this track, Shadyj?

Now I'm curious... how compressed is the audio in your average YouTube video, and is there any way to tell for a specific vid? Just wondering, since that seems to be the easiest legal way to share music on a forum like this.

Here is a spectragram of a bit over 15 seconds of the track. You can see the fundamental bass line seems to hover around 30 Hz and some of the beats dip into the 20s. For a comparison, most music doesn't really dip under 50 Hz, and even most dubstep doesn't really go below 40 Hz.

That is an FFT analysis on a channel control program that comes with MOTU sound interfaces, so you would have to buy a Mark of the Unicorn sound interface to use it. There are lots of spectrogram programs out there though, like this one or this one, and a bunch of them are free. Just do a search for 'audio spectrogram software' or something like that.

Poking around youtube today, and found this tune which starts out with some extremely deep sweeps, plunging into the single digits perhaps, although not mixed blazing hot it was enough to give the cones a workout. It's a berlin style electronic piece a la Tangerine Dream (RIP Edgar Froese) or Klaus Schulze, really beautiful spacey tune, like the soundtrack for the greatest 70's science fiction movie that was never made.

Still, I think we kind of need a good spectrogram software dedicated to bass hunters for movies and music. I kind of started one on my free time but quickly got frustrated by the state of affairs with file formats, third party libraries, and distribution. It's still a hassle to open up an MP3 file, and re-distributing a library such as Ffmpeg requires compiling it from scratch an opening yourself to litigation.

You obviously just haven't heard the right rap. Some of the underground hip hop is really impressive. Good lyrics, old school samples, not the best from a Bass standpoint for the most part, but there are a LOT of good hidden gems. And not a mention of money'hoes'or clothes.

The bass in that tune hits the mid 30s at its lowest, but mostly stays around 50 to 60 Hz. It might sound deeper than it is because it is pretty much just sine waves and is relatively uncluttered with higher order harmonics.

Did anyone check this out yet? The first deep bass hit is at the 48 second mark. Scared the crap out of me the first time I heard it on a system with good subs.

Whoa... that was pretty cool... Where the hell did that come from???? Has to be synthetic because I don't see anything onstage that could create that...

Sounds better on Spotify, if you have it. I found it on the "5 Years Paradise Lost - B - Sides" album. Lot's of good dark tracks on it.
