That makes more sense ... someone should clarify that in the initial post in the other thread (which we aren't allowed to post in until everyone from the meet has posted .... ) so that people know it was the older SVS and not the new PB12-Plus.

I will say this. I really wish I would have brought one of my SVS PB13 Ultras to the meet. I thought a PC13 Ultra was going to show up or I would have.

Yeah, that would have been great, but it turned out very well so far without it, IMO. Great write up, C. I understood everything you wrote as though I had attended. No flowery drivel that I can't ever relate to an actual sub.

Nice job. Much appreciated.

BTW, any chance you can combine the averaged FR graphs you posted in the other thread into one chart?

I put a link to the raw REW measurement files in post 3 of the results thread. Feel free to download it, run waterfalls, averages, overlays, etc. This is the exact reason why I measured each sub the exact same way (and each in their own file) so folks could tinker with them til their hearts are content.

Just so you know, the SPL was measured with an analog Radio Shack spl meter. I didn't take the time to use my calibrated Galaxy SPL meter to get the SPLs exactly 75dB. Therefore when you overlay the graphs you must offset the graphs accordingly or you will overstate/understate the graphs.

I appreciate these words Bosso. Most especially because I respect your opinion.

At the meet I called it as I heard it. I didn't want to hurt anyone's feelings in my review but OTOH I don't want to do the non-attendees an injustice.

Here are the traces of the SM naked and in-room at the G2G vs the passive Cap naked and the powered Cap naked vs in-room at the G2G:

The passive version needs an EQ and beefy amp to perform like the the powered version.

Thank you for the great answer.

Do you think an ep4000 at 8ohms (without line level booster due to hum issues) in passive cap in the older 15hz cabinet will be enough in a strangely shaped 2300-2500sq ft room (size is hard to estimate due to the shape) will be enough or do I really need more power?

I plan on using an SMS-1 for EQ.

Thanks

Anybody in KC up for doing a blind listening test on a few high class contendors in matching config - singles or duals - whatever we can come up with? Sometime this January - as things are slower? My wife and kids are going to be out of town a couple weeks and so I'll have a couple free weekends to make this happen - from Jan 4 to Jan 20. Blind testing with owner's score being thrown out on their own sub - post audition should be a good test. People hooking up the subs could offer subjective comments - but would not vote.

My room affords blind testing fairly well if we just place the subs in the back of the room and hang a sheet behind the seating position. The walk-out basement in the rear makes it very easy to move things in and out.

Counsil? - Submersive HP

Energyfun? - JL F113

tcottonab? - PB13 Ultra Sledge

Archaea? - Captivator Pro

HuskerOmaha? - CHT sub - 18.1 SS or 18.2 SS or 18.1 vs (whatever you end up with)

All the rest of the gang who'd like to attend could do so as voting listners (or provide other sub options if anyone can think of something they'd like to line up against these subs. I'd like to keep the lineup length less than a half dozen entries to make the blind testing manageable.
