Are the 50's still the gold standard for Danley subs, or did the dts-20/10 supersede them? Supposedly Tom uses the 50's.

Does anyone know where I can hear a Danley setup? I e-mailed them, offering to fly to GA, but my request was routed to the bit bucket.

I have owned both. I actually was able to get the TH-50 integrated better into my system than the DTS-10. They are both potent animals and have wonderful reproduction of bass. The TH-50 still sticks in my head as my all time fave. Waiting for a few JTR Captivators to get here. Hoping they become the new favorite.

BTW...Call Danley. They are ever so pleasant to deal with any they love visitors.

Calling worked. They invited me down on the 5th. They said they had a demo room with the sh-50's (which I'm also interested in) and the dts-10. They were very pleasant.

Tom said the th-50's were designed to keep up with the sh-50's so I thought they might have better synergy, but the guy I talked to said they don't sell the th-50's as much anymore now that the newer subs are out.

How are you getting to Atlanta? If by car and driving in from the Eastern side, you are welcome to PM me and hear a pair of DTS10's in my home.

The way I look at it, is that if you have "enough", it really doesn't matter which model is the gold standard. A pair of either is "enough.

You will be overwhelmed by the hospitality shown by the folks at Danley.

Tony,
I didn't see your post before I left. I would really like the opportunity to hear a pair of DTS-10's in a dedicated theater. I was in Blue Ridge, GA for the week when I went to visit DSL, but normally am in NC. A drive to SC would be worth it if the offer is still there.

Brandon,
They had a pair of DTS-10's setup with SH-50's. They didn't have any TH-50's for me to listen too, but they had other larger subs like a dual 21" I think. All the speakers were stacked creating a wall of speakers which lead to some models being placed better than others. The TH-50's were at the top maybe 5' above ear level from a ~15' listening position. The "room" boundaries were black cloth hung from steel trusses in an otherwise large steel & concrete warehouse (about the size of a small aircraft hanger). They don't EQ the demo speakers. The subs didn't sound level matched with the mains or each other. And there weren't any acoustic treatments.

So I'm not sure I know how they'll sound in a professionally designed, fully acoustic treated, dedicated theater space any better than if they recorded a demo and e-mailed it to me in a .WAV file. At this point all I can say is the DTS-10's play loud and the SH-50's sounded very clear against a highly reverberant back drop. I would very much like to hear them in an environment closer to what I intend to use them for. Next stop Chicago IMAX, unless Tony lets me invite myself over to his house to play.

rabident, I'm responding to your PM now.

I agree with your comments regarding DSL demo setup. I felt the same. Even after a demo it was a gamble. Then I got it home and began the long learning curve of EQ, etc. I've now had mine over a year and although I've come a long way, I'm convinced that there is more performance to be had.
