I noticed that there isn't a review up yet for this movie in the Blu Ray review section.

I just watched it tonight, and I have to say, I wasn't impressed with the mix. Waaaaaaay too much LFE. It seemed like everything had some aspect of LFE. The Magneto scenes were the worst.

Don't get me wrong, I like LFE and deep bass, however, I seriously had a headache from watching this movie all the way through. It almost seemed like the mix was all LFE and high end with no depth. There really wasn't as much immersion and depth to the soundstage, like some of the other comic remake movies. Iron Man comes to mind, where there was a good balance of LFE and other enveloping tones.

Anyone else throw this in tonight and experience the same?

Overlook the audio issues if any. You can tame the bass with the level control.

The movie was great, IMO. One of my favorites this summer.

Let me know what you think. I can't really describe it differently. Aside from the overly Hot LFE, it just didn't seem full. Just for kicks, I will throw in another BD for comparison to make sure some setting didn't get messed up on my receiver.

I thought Beast's makeup looked super cheesy. Other than that I really enjoyed the movie. Saw it a crummy theater though, I can't comment on the audio.

Dumb enough to spend lots of cash on this junk!

I for one thought the LFE was awesome. I wouldn't call it hot, just a lot of deep stuff without a lot of "punch". Then again, my setup tends to be very "dry" in terms of character, so a hot mixed movie tends to be closer to "nice" than the typical movie that gets praise for its LFE.

I'd assume the waterfalls show lots going on from 16hz to 30hz, which seems to fit perfectly with Magneto scenes.

I can imagine someone with 6 LMS-5400s having a nice time with this movies.

I can also imagine someone with a wimpy sub, or unaccounted room gain, not liking the bottom end.

Are u kidding? The LFE is awesome dude. Perhaps, the sub is too boomy?
Mixed too hot? What about TRON Legacy?

This is reference quality. The Magneto scenes were the pick of the bunch. Very low (around 20hz or below) and powerful as well.

Bingo agree with you 100% Eternal Velocity. Watched it last night and as I stated previously this movie has reference written all over it. Lots of low,mid and upper bass all inserted at the right moment. As usual different setups will reproduce either all three aspects or two of them.

Exactly! I'm going to have to disagree with the main poster. This movie rocks the house on my Outlaw LFM-1 EX. If you don't have a sub that can handle down low I'm sure it'll sound terrible but if you got a sub that can handle a deep LFE track it's amazing. I could feel Magneto in my couch and in my chest when he lifts the sub out of the water and when he moved the sat dish in the "training" scenes.

I only have two Emo Ultra 10" subs, but I figure because my system handles Tron Legacy no problem, it should not have a problem with this movie either. Will have to think about picking it up (If the bass sucks, I am sure Jennifer Lawrence will be adequate compensation.)

I watched it last night and holy cow completely agree with the Magnero scenes. With the right sub they really add depth to the movie. The PB12+ was working although I bet it could've been a few dbs hotter and it would have been amazing but had to keep it in control per the Mrs. Loved the movie, the story, the audio, everything.

You would be doing this movie a disservice watching it on those subs IMO.

You really want 112db capability down to 15hz+

Otherwise your subs will remove a LOT of LFE info. Those emotivas roll off below 45hz IIRC.

That's almost an octave and half missing... maybe more.

exactly...I couldn't wait for this movie to come out on Bluray. I knew when I heard the LFE track in the theater it was going to be a real treat when I could get it at home.

Moral of the story...get a sub that can go low without rolling off.

Any specific scenes that stood out? I watched it last night, but I must have had it turned down a little bit because I didn't notice any of that punch in your chest bass, plus my family was asleep. I'd like to crank it up and watch a few scenes again before I return it to Blockbuster.

The first time it hit me that this movie was on to something special, was Riptide's first appearance. It must have been close to an infrasonic because I actually felt like there was a tornado in front of me, even though it wasn't "loud"

Watched Thor, Fast Five & X-Men about 3 weeks ago ....Thor was WAY better in my theater.

I guess i am already used to Magneto's resonating bass etc, from the previous movies.

In order of best impressive bass...

1. Thor

2. X-Men

3. Fast Five

A lot of good commentary here... I was away for the weekend, so just catching up.

I have also figured out a couple of things...

I re-eq'd my subs a while back, which raised the trim on my AVR and decreased the subs' gain. However, I didn't readjust and reduce my transducer amp to reflect this. That was probably the main contributor to my overly heavy bass effect. I have now readjusted everything, and will rewatch the movie.

In general, it just seemed like every scene had deep bass in it, which just wore me out. I like the LFE to be used more sparingly I guess, so it takes you by surprise in a big scene. Like Master and Commander or The Patriot. I like the deep stuff, just not in every scene. It just seemed like it was overused IMO.
