I too haven't had any problems with monoprice cables but then again for only $3-10 you've gotta expect a few bad apples along the way.

I have had a Monoprice cable go bad. I also had some customer service issues with Monoprice, so I no longer buy directly from them (although I do buy Monoprice through Amazon). But I do think for a budget subwoofer that I would not recommend someone spend for a Blue Jeans Cable subwoofer cable. One can replace the cable a few times for what the Blue Jeans Cables cost.

However, Tartan Cable is Blue Jeans Cable's budget offerings that are comparable in price to Monoprice, if looking for a Monoprice alternative.

I assume its a 10". If you have a need for it buy it. If it works properly I dont see how you can go wrong.

No, Mr. Bond. I expect you to die!

Hey Guys,

I've been reading up trying to figure out what sub to choose but I'm still not sure. The sole purpose of the sub is to have it combined with my headphones (Denon D2000) so I can feel the thump better while gaming (also some movies and TV shows but mainly gaming since this will be for my PC).

The setup will be: PC > Receiver > Headphones / Sub

My office is very small (13 x 9 feet) and the sub will be sitting about 3 feet next to me.

I'm trying to keep the budget around $200 but I'm flexible if it's worth it. Also, a very important caveat is that because I live in PR I need to buy the sub from Amazon (Prime eligible) so I don't get screwed with shipping cost.

At the moment my top candidates are:

I know other BIC subs like the F-12 and PL-200 have been recommended quite a bit but at the moment in Amazon they are either over $300 or not Prime eligible.

What do you guys recommend?

Note: I would like to keep the price as low as possible, of course. At first I was even going to go with ~$130 subs like the Martin Logan Dynamo 300 or Yamaha YST-SW216BL.

Thanks!

Here is the Dayton Sub 1200 for $145 including shipping. Google for a $10 off coupon code.

I've checked Parts-Express, the problem is the shipping cost to me is $204.85. That's why I'm keeping it restricted to Amazon.

How are you planning on getting that to work? By default, the receiver will not send any audio to the speakers or sub once the headphones are plugged in.

And if you could figure out some way to make it work, what you really need to go with headphones is a tactile transducer, not a sub. For example, the ButtKicker gamer: http://www.thebuttkicker.com/gamer2

I already got this to work. I did a trial run using the receiver and sub I have in my living room. I didn't use the headphones port on the receiver. I have an amp between my headphones and the source, so I simply connected my PC's sound card to the RCA input of the receiver and the headphone amp to the RCA out. Voila.

Ok. You have a headphone amp smile.gif

Still, look into the tactile transducers. They are designed to add the effects you need.

Yeah, I know about the buttkicker, but thanks for the suggestion. I still want a sub for now but that may be the next step in the evolution. biggrin.gif

Polk PSW505 might be your best bet. Or if you can go over budget, the BIC PL-200.

In your opinion, do you think the BIC PL-200 is worth the $74 over the Polk PSW505?

A sub worth looking into is the Polk DSW660...some have reported finding them for under 300.00. If that is the case it could be the new Klipsch RW-12D replacement. I would expect it to be a significantly better sub then the PSW505. Much better driver and better extension. +/-3db 25-125hz.

It's essentially the same as the BIC F-12, which is a very popular budget sub. For $200, it is a good buy for home theater bass, less so for music. If you are in a larger room or if it is open to other rooms, I would consider the BIC PL-200.

Denon AVR-1713 | EMP E55Ti | EMP E56Ci | EMP E5Bi | BIC F-12

Thanks for the response. It's for a very small closed room (13' x 9').

I will use the sub mainly for HT (gaming actually) but I'm curious, what makes it not that good for music?

That would be a fine choice for a small space like that. Generally budget subs sound a bit boomy, which is good for things like explosions and movie effects. Music requires more articulate bass, and you need to step up to something like a PB/SB-1000. I usually leave my F-12 off for music, it ends up just being a one-note thumper and my towers do a better job for music.

Are those two models really that similar? They sure do look quite a bit different.

If you take yourself too seriously expect me to do the exact opposite

They have identical specifications, and use what looks to be the same amp. The drivers might be slightly different but I would wager they are pretty much the same. Also they have the same dimensions and weight.
