I never considered Polk seriously before because of price. Then I susbscribed to Newegg's sales emails, and there it was: $169 delivered. I looked at the specs and bought it. 48#, auto on/off, RCA input, and most of all the freq response ratings. Supposedly 23Hz on the low end, 300 Watts continuous average. What a deal, right? I was told the low end was more like 35Hz, which is no small difference. Still, it had the job of replacing an overpriced Yammy YST-SW200, which cost approx 3 times as much, way back in 1993. During the BluRay of "Mad Max Fury Road" this sub, in tandem with an old Energy EPS-150, literally shook the floor boards. It was superb- much of that is due to the encoding on the soundtrack no doubt, best sound and picture I have yet to experience on BRD. I tried every way I could to get Polk to tell me the build date, they told me it was not available. The build code/serial number tag did not contain the build date, according to Polk. I am just wondering if these PSW-505's that seem to be on sale most of the year were part of a huge over production? I am quite pleased in fact with my PSW-505, esp. at that price. I do wonder when it was built however. JS
I'm peicing together a new system (the old system my two sons basically destroyed ... don't ask) ....

Anyway they decided to help and one bought me a center and the other a PSW 505 ..... I guess they were having a discusion about this with their older sister, there was some confusion, and I ended up with two 505's.

Luckily the MRX720 I just bought can use two sub woofers .... so I connected them both ......

Anyway, I chuckle everytime I crank up my system now .... it sounds awesome .....

I always keep an eye on those Fry's email codes. Last week I bought 2 Klipsch RS-12W for $197 each. I grabbed 2, they were basically 50% off

got mine today - won't get hooked up for a couple weeks yet.

Where should I start with the dials on this thing? We're not a bass crazy family so I bet my wife will say turn it down regardless of where we start but what's a good jumping off point?

In for one at Fry's at $187, however, couldn't add a 2nd to be shipped. Called them and they noted that the item is no longer available for shipping. Tried to get the $188 price at Newegg, but it is showing at $229.

Anyone still able to see the $188 price at Newegg?

Amazon price is $227.

Thanks in advance.

I originally consider the SVS pb1000 that gets alot of rave reviews here. But since I have to get a new receiver and FLC, I just can't justify the cost. So, would the BIC F12 or the Klipsch be the next logical step down? I've never owned a down firing sub but it seems front firing would be better???? I'd be coming from an old sony SAWM40. Would either of these be a significant upgrade?

Living room is maybe 15' ft wide and 18 ft long. Couch is ~10 - 12 Ft from tv. Back behind the couch is a small foyer and off to another side it is open to the dining room.

My Sony sawm40 does a decent job but I know it's not a top quality and I want something better. Just not sure I can afford an SVS after I get a receiver and FCR speakers. So, I wanted something at least better than what I have.

Cable tv 60%, movies 25%, music 15% or so. But when I do listen to music, I want it to sound good.

Was looking at the Yamaha RX-A1050 (new or maybe have to go refurb). So that would be ~$800-~$1100 or so.

For speakers I was considering the DefTec PM1000's and PC2000 for around ~$550. will just reuse my current rears.

SO, that doesn't leave much for a sub. Which is why I'm here. It looks like it's either a budget sub or use my Sony for a while until I save up. But that might be 6-8 months or so.
