Seems like Klipsch sub-12hg is the perfect sub at that price but it's out of stock everywhere.

Other than the Klipsch, these seem to be popular or mentioned quite a bit over the last few pages:

$200-$230:
Bic F-12 ($220) http://www.parts-express.com/bic-for...oofer--303-436
Polk PSW505 ($230) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16882290130
Dayton sub-1500 ($198) http://www.parts-express.com/dayton-...oofer--300-634

$150
Dayton sub-1200 ($148) http://www.parts-express.com/dayton-...oofer--300-629
Jamo J12 ($150) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16886427002

Should I wait for the Klipsch to come back to stock or is it discontinued? Is it worth picking something from the $200 group over the $150 group? If so, which one?

The Klipsch Sub-12 is "discontinued":

http://www.klipsch.com/products/sub-12-subwoofer

Stock is still available. But, supplies and selection are limited:

http://www.frys.com/product/7580936 (in-store pickup only)

https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-list...dVeryGood=true

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Klipsch-Sub-...r/322256808867 (used)

The Polk PSW505 is available "Used - Like New" (open box) for as little as USD ~180 delivered:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-list...dVeryGood=true

And the BIC RtR Eviction RtR-EV1200 is analogous to the BIC Formula F-12, and widely available:

https://www.walmart.com/ip/BIC-RtR-E...oofer/17218971

https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-list...&condition=new

As usual, if you can wait until Black Friday (~10 weeks), you should get more bang for your buck(s).

A/VR: Sony STR-DE598 (6.1 channels)
L/R + C: 2 x BIC Venturi DV62si + 1 x Boston Acoustics CS 26 II
Subs: BIC RtR RtR-12S + Polk Audio PSW110
Surrounds: 2 x Klipsch Synergy B-20 + 1 x Boston Acoustics CS 26 II

Thanks for the info! I found a BIC PL-200 for $280 shipped. I was going to get that over the F12 since it's only $60 more but is it worth $100 over the BIC RtR Eviction RtR-EV1200?

I've owned all of the subs you listed above. The Klipsch sub-12 has been discontinued for quite some time, but still readily available. However, it seems it may have finally run it's course. It doesn't look like it's available for the most part and certainly not for under $200.

For your room, using just one sub, I would go with the Dayton sub-1500. I actually preferred the 1200 over the 1500, but the 1500 will give you a bit more output. The Bic V-1220 is also a good budget sub if you can get it for a good price.

EDIT: jet.com has 15% off your first 3 orders. With that discount, you can get the Bic V1220 for around $166. That's a good price on a good sub. https://jet.com/product/BIC-America-...4894341400b792

EDIT2: Using code SSV416, you can get $10 off the Dayton sub-1500 @Parts -express.com. So you're looking at around $20 more for the sub-1500 over the V1220. For that difference in price, I think I would opt for the sub-1500 in your position.

I have no experience with the Bic PL-200, but from what I understand its a slightly better (step up) from the Bic F12. The CEA-2010 max output @25Hz for the PL-200 is 96.2dB and at 31.5Hz 102.5dB. This shows that the PL-200, as with many budget subs, has a rather step drop off below 30Hz. In other words, don't expect it to be a huge improvement over say the F12.

If you plan to add a second sub (recommended for better room coverage/dead-spot mitigation), I would say "no". Put that $100 towards a second sub.

However, if you are adamant about having only one sub, and your target output levels (SPL) are relatively high, you might
benefit from the more potent amp (250 W sustained, 1000 W transient) of the PL-200.

I'm not adverse to the idea.

When it comes to getting review units, I've been blown off by more companies then I can count at this point. I'm OK with that so long as it's done in a professional manner. Saying "no thank you" or "we aren't interested at this point in time" is totally fine by me. It's the companies who either don't have the courtesy to respond or those that lead me around for weeks (and months some times) and then just go mute that infuriate me. Jamo was the former.

At $150 I would have no problem picking up a J12 just to satisfy my own curiosity, provided I had someone to sell it off to when I was done. I don't see myself doing a review though. If they aren't interested in me doing a evaluation on one of their subwoofers I'm certainly not either.

If you take yourself too seriously, expect me to do the exact opposite

That might not be a bad value for the price. Wonder if anybody reading this thread has heard one before.

Yeah, but not a thorough review on the sub. I'm just wondering if it can compete with the PB1000?

My room size is 9x10, not too big...used for movies.

Well as far as broom closet goes, I can't be too picky...I made the decision to go with it and it's a vast improvement to the bose I had.

Cam depends on your budget? But a Dayton 1500(It's big) or OSD PS12 12" would be good in the room.

Thanks for the tip, I ended up going with the original sub...psw108, I know it's not the most popular choice, it my budget was only 200, and BB had it...for the size of my room it does pretty well.

Has anyone done a semi-legitimate review of the Jamo J12? About to just got for a Dayton SUB-1200 @ $138 shipped on promo and just call it a day. Is the OSD PS12 a step (in budget terms) above the Dayton subs? This is a 2-year stop-gap, but $200 is totally doable.

OSD/Dayton both do well for music, but the OSD does better for HT IMO. I have them both. There is no legit review for the Jamo J12 as of yet.

Can someone tell me what the difference is between say a $500 and a $200 sub like a pioneer J jones?

I'm trying to put together a new setup and know very little about audio. I don't know if I should go with floor speakers and a cheaper sub or bookshelves and a stronger sub.

Hi Nicky What is the size of your room? What will it be used for Music or Movies? Do you have a receiver to hook up the speaker?

I'm trying to put together a new setup and know very little about audio. I don't know if I should go with floor speakers and a cheaper sub or bookshelves and a stronger sub.
Start with some good quality bookshelves that can competently play down to 80Hz and the best sub you can afford.

Hi All, can someone recommend a sub? Room size is 6.5 m x 5.2 m (20 ft x 17 ft) - open plan place with a small dividing wall halfway through (like below).

Code:
            <--- 20 ft --->
      ------------------------------
    | |
    | |
    | |_
    |
17 -----------(divider) <door>
ft | _
    | |
    | [Couch]    ->        [TV]    |
    | |
     ------------------------------
I was about to pull the trigger on a Klipsch Reference R12SW at ~300 but I googled it and people's opinions on here weren't so good... what should I get instead? I use it for movies and music - and boy do I love my bass.

Also I have a special requirement - the sub must be able to take an input voltage of 230V.

I knew I forgot to mention something. It's standard height - 2.2-2.4 meters, about 7 ft.
