Paradigm released their new Monitor Series 7 subwoofers today.
Sealed, compact, front-firing design… Perfect Bass Kit compatible… NLC (corrugated) surrounds from their Signature Series… Wireless option… These look like a winner!

The specification sheet you posted doesn't give any clues of what the excursion capabilities of the NLC surround are. When this surround appeared on the Signature speakers the excursion doubled. This NLC surround was used for the SUB 1 but not the SUB 2.

One of the Signature brochures state:

Quote:
Ten times more effective than standard thermoplastic elastomers in damping vibrations and resonances, the corrugated material works in tandem with our Vibration Cancelling Design Architecture to ensure not a hint of distortion exists, even at peak-to-peak excursion (almost 2" / 50mm in SUB 2!) and full-on output.

Are the Paradigm engineers willing to specify the xmax for these new drivers?

It is interesting. I assume they are all sealed subs.

Since the Monitor S7 subwoofers are an entirely new 'clean sheet of paper' design, it isn't appropriate to expect Paradigm to specify an improvement over a previous generation product.

They look pretty slick. I'm curious on the sound, and how they would pair up with the v.6 Monitors. Seeing as how they have just been released, all in due time.

Interesting. I wonder if it would be better to choose say 2 Monitor Sub 12's over 1 Studio Sub 12

Pricing? Edit: nm googled it

- All three subs are available in Black Ash to match the Monitor Series loudspeakers and estimated US MSRP is: Monitor SUB 8 – $699; Monitor SUB 10 – $849, Monitor Sub 12 – $999.

Hmmm...they seem a tad pricey for what the specs are saying. I'm thinking maybe a Sub 12 instead. I'm in the market for a sub, not really sure on what to get. I'm only going for one, so I may as well make it a good one.

For ~$1,000, I'd snag a Servo-15 v2.

I believe so.

Paradigm chose to do the opposite of what makes the internet direct subwoofers a better value; they give more performance for less money. These subwoofers are much smaller than the DSP series. The largest new sub, the Monitor SUB 12 is smaller than the smallest of the old lineup, the DSP-3100. WAF wins again.

price model specs height width depth volume
$999 DSP-3400 14" ported 300w 22.3 in 15.8 in 21.0 in 4.3 cu ft
$799 DSP-3200 12" ported 300w 18.3 in 14.0 in 19.5 in 2.9 cu ft
$599 DSP-3100 10" ported 200w 16.3 in 12.3 in 16.8 in 1.9 cu ft

$999 Monitor SUB12 12" sealed 300w 15.1 in 13.0 in 14.5 in 1.6 cu ft
$849 Monitor SUB 10 10" sealed 300w 13.0 in 11.1 in 12.8 in 1.1 cu ft
$699 Monitor SUB 8 8" sealed 300w 10.7 in 10.3 in 11.1 in 0.7 cu ft

note: volume includes feet, grille and amplifier

To put this in perspective, I guess you could directly compare these to the small sealed subs like the SB12 or Emotiva XR12. Those are close to/around $700 after shipping.

I've gotten discounts of up to 25% off the RRP of Paradigm goods so it's not that far off. For $99 you can get the PBK makes it gives it a good integration solution if you don't have a receiver that has XT32.

Paradigm subs have always been pretty decent for B&M brand subs.

They did say 1.5 inches excursion for the S12 driver in the blurb on the 3rd page

So, wouldn't the new SUB's be more like the PDR(?) series? The DSP's are ported, whereas the new series are not. I'm curious on how sealed, along with smaller size/weight these new SUB's will sound. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to be negative, just being curious. I desprately need a new sub, and want to stay with Paradigm, to match my Monitor speakers.

Just a friendly FYI: Subs don't have to be "timbre-matched" to speakers, so don't limit your choices unnecessarily. There are a lot of great subs out there, at least some of which represent a better value than Paradigm's subs.

That being said, I hope you're able to quickly find a sub (Paradigm or other) that fits your needs and your budget, and that puts a smile on your face.

I realize that the sub doesn't neccesarily need to be matched with the speakers. I'm just a Paradigm fan
Living in Canada, there are not a lot of the ID companies here. I know I could order from the US, but shipping & duty really jack up the price.

I'm a Paradigm fan, too, starting with the 7se's I bought back in the mid- to late 80's. But for some reason I have never owned a Paradigm sub (although, at one point, I almost got my hands on a Servo-15 v2). I've had a DefTech sub, then two SVS subs in a row, and now a CHT dual-sub set-up.

Anyway, best of luck with your purchase!

I haven't heard about these new subs since they were introduced. No reviews, no happy/unhappy customers...no nothing. Why is that? Curious minds like mine want to know.

Have the monitor sub12. Alls I can say is phenomenal. the bass is very deep and very clean especially with the pbk programmed. Got mine on sale at local home theater store for $800 the sub 10 was $750. No brainer. but what sold me was hearing the sub8 wow could not believe how low it went. Had to have the sub12.

Yes, the Sub 8 might have gone low but how did it do with volume??? I'm thinking of getting one of these for the bedroom but my local store is slow at getting these since they don't sell a lot of subs. I need to hear one for myself.
