How many 18.2's will you end up buying?

I realize that I wouldn't EVER buy just one, but I guess it is whatever you want to have the GTG for and who the audience other than us is. I just think doing singles shows the sub's true colors.

It is a '69 Chevelle SS. I only have borrowing permission; it is my uncles.
My '65 Mustang Fastback wouldn't be able to match it, even with a 1/16 mile head start or more.

EDIT: Speaking of the '65, Technosponge or Stormwind needs to take these F20s off my hands so it can have the garage space back. It is lonely living at my parents...getting no love.

Husker Omaha and I were chatting last night.

This thing is on.

The details will continue to be fleshed out, but if you need to buy a plane ticket, arrange travel, or take off time at work - mark up your calendars and submit your vacation requests now.

As I posted earlier, there is no "correct" comparison here, but know that the results could be very different from one to the other. How would the results have changed if one of the pairs of boxes used at the Omaha Subfest was used as a single and we heard a loud CLACK during one or some of the demos?

Playback levels and how hard a sub is pushed when listening will always complicate making such comparisons, and the info that is important for each enthusiast will differ.

for those of you interested - the Dayton Audio omnimic is $250 shipped at parts express right now. $50 off and the first time I've seen it on sale. I'm picking one up and figured some of the enthusiasts in the thread may like a heads up!

How much easier is it to use than REW or is REW a better setup?

Well, if you are starting from scratch it takes about 5 mintues to get your first graph from ominimic. REW takes much longer. If you have REW already setup it is easy, meaning you have all the calibrations done and the wires are in place, etc....

see ive got REW setup on my laptop but I just never really know if im getting the readings from my RS meter or the built in mic on the laptop, and setting up all that stuff everytime is never the same. I always seem to run into issues with the sweeps and bad levels and what not as well. Will omnimic work on an apple? then at least ill be able to run it on a laptop that doesnt have to stay plugged in the whole time....

dang that sounds crappy on my headphones.

I did find that on youtube too, but after listening to it on my setup at home I found it missing sound quality off my purchased recording. The movie making functionality conversion or youtube conversion seems to cut out a bit of audio quality. Suffice to say the real song is a treat when that bass starts kicking in.

The subs in the back of the room idea failed miserably. Luke came over tonight and we played with our omnimics and moving the caps ALLLLLLL over the room. The back of the room is terrible. There is a 20-27hz suckout in the listening position that is down by probably 15dB - so that's not going to fly. Luke had a good idea that we just make some blinds for the front. Make a quick frame out of some 2x4's and put a sheet over it. The subs can still be in the front of the room when we listen and we'll just have to have the auditioners leave the room when the subs are changed out.

We also found that changing the Caps direction perpendicular to the front smoothed out the response the most in my room. So the drivers fire towards the left and right walls from the center of the room. This HURTS me, cause I love to feel the breeze of the caps, but I'm trying to acheive that flat response and get used to that sound so I guess in my particular room - that's what it takes to get it the smoothest. It actually did turn out pretty impressively flat. We got rid of that null at 50hz that was really present in the KC meet simply by turning the subs to face the wall.

I'll post a couple charts in the cap thread tommorow. My bass is no longer running hot and while I do like the fact that a sine wave sweep sound and feels smoother - I miss my 6-10dB hot bass.

Oh and by the way - Luke and my omnimic do NOT measure the same - Luke is going to write up those details with graphs and pictures. That's a bit disheartening.

It's surprising what a 90 degree turn can do. I have both my 15Hs turned to the right to get a more natural flat response (I only had two peaks this way to get rid of).

Started out using two different PCs.

When we saw the descrepancy we tried swapping them out (and switching the mic id code appropriately in every instance). Even on the same notebook pc significantly different measurements were taken by the two mics. Which should happen because the omnimic uses an internal soundcare for processing and theoretically the laptop in use doesn't make any difference. I won't steal Luke's thunder - he has a lot of screenprints, snapshots, frds and actual pictures to document this issue. That thread will get interesting fast - I'm sure.

I started a thread in the diy forum where the omnimic thread is. I am not too happy about it at this point.

By the way I will be at the upcoming gtg. Sure am glad Counsil took measurements at the last meet. Wouldn't have put much weight on my omnimic measurements!

Firing to the side has also giving me the best response, helping me knock down a peak.

Another vote for an A7-450 with a pro amp at the meet..if at all possible. I of course do not have one, but it is on my short list against a Cap.

Long time lurker here, but VERY interested in attending. What a great opportunity to hear, what is shaping up to be, a collection of the top subs available. Now if we can persuade Jeff to bring the OS's AND the new Captivator S. Unfortunately the demo would be after the introductory pricing runs out :'( Just wish some HSU ULS's were attending too, then all the subs on my "short list" would be represented. I imagine with all you gurus attending someone has heard these and could give me their opinion on how they might compare.

I wish this was happening closer to the end of the year or the first of the year, as I'll be in MO at that time. Or that I still lived just a couple hours north of HuskerOmaha. I'd love to hear these fantastic subs blind, especially with new products being demoed.

To wlelandj,

The HSU ULS simply isn't in the same category as these other offerings. It has relatively weak output by comparison. I wouldn't consider it against an OS, a Captivator, or a Submersive, even at the holiday special pricing.
