Most gaming I do is on the PC too. I bought the PS4 when Ratchet and Clank came out (fantastic game), and then it sat for 7 months until FFXV came out. After that, it'll probably sit again for 6 months.

In a room that size, is setting it to large just going to boost the low end? I really need to start playing with REW too, I've done all I can by ear and with a cheap SPL meter. I've always kept mine set to Large, I'd be curious how Small changes things (again, I need to get learning REW!)

In any size room.

Tom has a graph somewhere of the frequency response of Large vs. Small somewhere but I can't seem to find it right now. Basically, set to Large it boosts 10hz by about 3dB tapering off to no boost at about 30hz IIRC.

The purpose of it is that in large rooms you don't benefit from room gain as much so the low end boost can be beneficial. In smaller rooms with lots of room gain, the low end can become over-boosted so setting it to small will fix that.

Perfect explanation, thanks! Makes compete sense. I think I'll wait until I run REW before I make any changes.

Large = no boost native response. Small= -12db per octave cut starting around 40hz.

Tom Vodhanel,
In the second attachment for eh V3600i, what exactly is the difference between the lower orange line and the top black line with reference to room size setting on the back of the sub?
Thanks,
Russ

If I'm understanding the other posts, the black line is Large and is the base line number. The orange is all the way Small, which shows the cut basshead was talking about.

It looks to be a lot more than the 3dB at 10hz I thought...I most certainly did not recall correctly.

It's not just that you don't need four T18's (who does), but as ClawAndTalon says, you'll never tap into all that headroom you paid so much for.

But in the end, it's your money...
I have realized i like the sound of my sealed subs better than the ported ones i have. Especially for music. I just seem to get better chest thump out of sealed and it just feels tighter and quicker to me. Plus with a small room i want to chase that powerful ULF. i want noticeable output below 10 hz. With the t18s i might be able to set a nice house curve just using the room size setting taking advantage of room gain. I might not even have to buy any external EQ.

I know this isnt the most rational dessision but man 4 t18s would just be soooo amazing. Esspecially for demos to!

Also with a deal this good its hard not to just junmp on it amd future proof myself forever (or for the life of the subs anyway) with psa being so sucessful and dependable as a company i know i can buy theese and count on them for years to come. Its good company to make your last sub purchase with. Theres really no upgrading from here, not sensibly anyway

Is it possible to use a tablet, like say the Apple iPad or Samsung galaxy tablets to run programs similar to REW? No laptop or desktop in the house. Only have tablets.

It is available on OS X. You will need a way to connect the usb mic though. Do any of the tablets have usb support?

I bought a laptop specifically to run REW. Was only like $225.

Of course, I now use it for other stuff too. Kinda convenient having a computer right next to my recliner.

Same story here Alan, although I originally bought mine for video calibration with Chromapure. I have since used it for numerous things, mainly music downloads/playback through the HT and surfing the net on the couch.

I have an old laptop with on board sound only - no sound card. Do I just need a USB mic or do I need to get a external sound card also?

You should be able to use that laptop with the Java driver and REW using the headphone or speaker output. You won't be able to target individual channels like you can with Asio/HDMI, but it will get you going. All covered in the guide linked in my sig.

Not to mention the laptop is quieter than my PC, dont have the added noise of the computer fans running. I always try and shut off everything that creates noise (even the florescent lights until I swap over to LED).

They are usually 3.5mm 12v cables

Although the PSA ICE amps use voltage from the rca signal cable to trigger. I dont think they have the 3.5mm option for hardwire trigger

Don't need a trigger cable, use the toggle switch set in the middle position red light on (amp) RCA cable into LFE input, that's it, sub wakes up when it senses a signal.......

I am still learning obviously. I will try some more calibration tomorrow to see the differences. I did not write it down, but I am pretty sure that my FR measured in the AMC 2.0 was visually better with the subs set to large in my room....I just left them at large after AMDC 2.0 and Audyssey, and let them do their thing. Subs sure sounded great playing that Mechanic Resurrection the other day!
