It was simply a cost factor, the additional cost of the base along with the added cost for shipping because of the extra weight. Tom and Jim didn't want to have to increase the price of the sub or stop making them in the US for something offshore.

I think its great that they didn't want to compromise the quality of their products or raise the prices, so losing the base is a small price to pay.

Ya I have that issue! Mine wants to walk around the living room during heavy bass scenes or heavy bass music. Does the base plate keep it in place? If so I might just go ahead and order a plate so it will sit still.

Lol, ya I've read the whole thing myself. I'm glad I'm not alone! I think I'm gonna order a base plate and find out, but as you've mentioned I don't recall any complaints of the sub walking from those with the base plate model.

The only reason I would want a bottom plate would be for a downward facing sub with carpeted floors... The reason being the carpet would be absorbing some of the sound (I don't know if it would be much though).

I think it looks a lot better with the base. It seperates it from the basic black box. However, I think the extra $100 puts it to close in price to some better offerings. For $799 the XV-15 seems to be top dog, for $899 I'm not sure. I wish the $799 one had the base, but I'm glad Tom gave customers a choice. I see it as something akin to the veneer offerings.

Not what you might expect. The majority of the fundamental frequencies generated by these subwoofers have wavelengths too long to be absorbed by carpeting.

On the other hand, a component of the subs' harmonics could be absorbed by carpeting, because the harmonics' wavelengths could be short enough to be absorbed by carpeting. So if anything, over carpet, the four-foot version could net less distortion.

I'm still keeping my two base-model XS15s though wink.gif

Thanks for the reply's. Way back when I was looking at subs it seemed like people where high on Subwoofer Isolation pads/platforms. I have carpet now, but I'll have wood in the next couple months. The Auralex AmpDude Subwoofer Isolation is only $50, wouldn't it be better to get the 4 peg model and the platform vs the base?

Shipping is ridiculous. I have sold quite a bit of stuff in the last year and there were quite a few guys on the West Coast that wanted my subs and I could not sell it to them due to high shipping cost. The only way of seeing any profit from subs is to have buyer pickup.

I try to buy locally when shipping is not included in the price, and when I sell I try to sell locally.... Much easier to deal with cash in hand too.

Well, I don't know about the VX15 but the XV15 is a room filler. tongue.gif

Good catch BeeMan smile.gif. Coming from HTiB if this sub is what you guy say it is, I should be fine with one eek.gif. Room 12' W X 21' L X 8' H running Aperion 5T's speaker set up..

You may or may not be happy. It's not that you won't be happy so much as you'll want more. One acclimates far to quickly in matters of this kind.

A recommendation, take the time to download a freeware copy of REW. You'll need to purchase a measuring microphone from Parts-Express. The measuring microphone runs about $90.00. If you don't know already, room measuring software such as REW, allows onr to measure and get the best out of thrit subwoofer sound reproduction system.

What happens, subwoofer reproduced sound waves, don't play and get along well with each other. They will bounce around the room and reinforce or cancel each other out. Without being able to properly set your subwoofer system up and dial the output into your room's acoustics, one can get boomy bass or anemic bass. Bass is as much art it is science.

Just saying, it's all about the grin factor and coming from a HTiB, I feel very confident saying that you're going come away with a monstrous grin on your face.

(if you're not already onto this point, don't forget about the need to "PROPERLY" dial your new subwoofer in)

You're moving from an HTiB sub to an XV15 - the thought alone should blow you away! wink.gif

Kidding aside, a properly integrated XV15 in your 2,016 cu.ft. room should be seriously impressive. cool.gif

Well said, only time will tell. Do I need to use a y cable for the sub since my Denon X4000 comes sub 1 and 2?

Nope. One cable to the left subwoofer and one cable to the right subwoofer and if you have but one subwoofer, you need only one cable.

Picked up a Denon X4000 last Thursday and all I can say is WOW. I should have jumped on Audyssey XT32 earlier.

The one XV30f sounds completely fine in my room now after XT32 tamed all the peaks and dips. It also sounds so much more refined... I'm not feeling the need to buy a 2nd sub nearly as much.

Still...

I'm seeing a -14db drop off under 30Hz but it is the only real flaw remaining. Should I bother with a 2nd sub to try and lift that or am I asking for more trouble than it's worth?

(I know..I know...the mantra is always "more subs!" biggrin.gif but I do worry about some of the grief I've seen here with others trying to field 2 XV30fs in their rooms.)

Gosh, I wonder what advice you'll receive here in SB&T? But seriously folks the UN declared it a crime against humanity to run a processor that has SubEQ HT with only one sub. Google it.

Still...

I'm seeing a -14db drop off under 30Hz but it is the only real flaw remaining. Should I bother with a 2nd sub to try and lift that or am I asking for more trouble than it's worth?

(I know..I know...the mantra is always "more subs!" biggrin.gif but I do worry about some of the grief I've seen here from others trying to field 2 XV30fs in their rooms.)

Im running the xt32 also and it dramatically improved all my speakers! I wonder if that dip you speak of could be from placement? Have you measured from any other potential good spots for placing your sub to see if it still has the same dip? Maybe if you can find out whats causing the dip then placing a 2nd sub could eliminate the issue.
