Hehe yeah honey, they're like Legos, they ship them in pieces. It keeps them from getting damaged and makes the shipping easier, that's why there's 2 of them, see when I stack them it's just 1 sub. biggrin.gif

Getting me in trouble. I don't think I can handle setting up 2 Triax's by myself lol. The XV30s were bad enough.

Its wierd. When i use test tones and spl meter its actually calibrated 3db hot. Now what?

I actually have one abum by Fear Factory, "Remanufacture", which is a techno-industrial remix of "Demanufacture" if I'm not mistaken. It's been years since I listened to it.

I enjoy some Gojira as well. Their latest Blu-ray concert is top-notch and my wife absolutely hates it. My daughter is always asking to listen to that "crazy music". It gives her a chance to jump on the couch!

Lol how old is she? I'll have to try Gojira, never heard of it. My own 3-year-old daughter, upon listening to "Master of Puppets" by Metallica (almost devoid of bass though), spontaneously began to headbang, and she even shouted "Master! Master!" along. Note that she has no idea what the song's about, she doesn't even speak English yet biggrin.gif

I'll try Dethklok and Devid Driver for sure. I happen to own Hillbily Deluxe -- haven't listened to it in ages.

Yeah it looks like bass in metal got killed in 1985 or so.

What was it Brian?

It seems with a touch of tweaking, you're sweet to a minimum of <12Hz. Congrats! biggrin.gif

General board question: what's considered reasonable (functional) to expect vs what is considered esoteric that's more bragging than functional?
basshead81's Avatar basshead81 09:49 AM 11-07-2013
Looks good! I would run the sub 5db hotter but thats jmo.
Alan P's Avatar Alan P 10:20 AM 11-07-2013
To be fair, I haven't got my Mini DSP yet, but shouldn't Brian be able to easily pull down those peaks at 18 and 60hz?

Where's you crossover set Brian? If it's at 80hz, have you tried the sub distance tweak to try and smooth that transition out a bit more?
BeeMan458's Avatar BeeMan458 10:26 AM 11-07-2013
After looking at the graph, I'm seeing a harmonic thing going on; first order at 15Hz, third at 45Hz. And if one were to add +3dB to the center channel level slider, that might help with the right side of the graph.

FWIW, I'm looking to upgrade to an AVR that has XT32 from our current AVR that has XT to help tame our graph as I see your Onkyo has XT.

(if in doubt, we're here as enablers)

I noticed he has 1/6 smoothing. Brian please post a unsmoothed version of the graph so we can see how bad those peaks are.

I will try to figure out a house curve...haven't gotten there yet...I need a longer USB cable so I can do real time minidsp tweaking while being able to immediately run REW.

as far as bringing down the peaks...I was only using the PEQ's that REW was generating...like i said...once I get the longer usb cables...tweaking will commence haha

The outer ground is for the wall plate screw? And did you guys screw the screw in? No PSA yet but, I'm hoping on one soon. Thx.

You guys with the humming, have you looked into a ground loop isolator? I know that cheater plug is the work around but with such an expensive sub...I would personally try and attack the problem. I don't know enough about electricity, but I assume the ground is there for a reason.

Just pulled the trigger on a XV30 and wanted to post my experience...

First off, I'm a noob when it comes to home audio, so AVS has been a great tool to help me learn about all of the intricacies of home theater. I used AVS to see what subwoofer manufacturers members recommended. The usual suspects in the sub $1000 category of Rythmik, HSU, and SVS came up often. I had it all narrowed down to a HSU VTF3 MK4, but then I saw someone mention Power Sound Audio XV15 for pretty much the same price as a VTF3. After researching PSA, I found that everyone seemed to have high regard for Tom, his expertise, and his subwoofers. After numerous emails exchanged with Tom, I completely see where everyone is coming from with their high opinions of him and PSA. He answered all of my nooby questions completely and promptly. He never slammed another subwoofer manufacturer and always seemed eager to help --- truly a joy to do business with. We eventually decided that a xv30 would be a better option for my larger room vs. a xv15, so I ended up taking one of the discounted outlet center options. I think at $1199 it would be hard to find a sub comparable to the xv30.

I will be upgrading from a Logitech Z-2300 2.1 system. This system used to vibrate the bathroom stalls in my dorm suite in college, but just gets swallowed in my open floor plan house. It's crazy how much room size/dimensions can change a subwoofers response. I'll be pairing the xv30 with a pair of Arx A3rx-c floorstanders and an A2rx-c center channel for a 3.1 setup with plans for a 5.1 or 5.2 setup in the near future. I'll be sure to post pics of the xv30 along with the new LCR speakers. They should be a tremendous upgrade over the Z-2300.

I used to have the big Monster power amp and I had the hum... I called them up and their solution was to use a cheater plug. I know it may not be the right way but it was straight from the horses mouth as to what to do to fix it.

....now who can I con into helping me haul it inside.

In case anyone was curious. The XV30 is a massive sub. I mean its big. I thought my brother in laws ultra was big till i got this beast in the house. I cant permanently set it up until the end of the month when the theater space is done. I did plug it in today and give it a test drive. I will have to may run audessy on my old denon just to get the levels somewhat close.

Anyone have a good starting point? I am running the signal 5 hot and it seems I need alot more gain than I thought I would. I dig the finish and the build of the cabinet. To quote the wife "it looks rugged and classy" tongue.gif

I hear yah, like I said, it's just what I would do with my expensive toy. Wish an electrician could chime in, hah wink.gif it just almost seems like there is no point to the ground then? I used one on my plasma and never had any issues, because it was a weird 90 degree angle.

ok after finding a longer cord here is some tweaking with a house curve:

I cant figure it out,

but anytime I run audyssey after it ruins the response...I need to get xt32

Just for giggles, the next time you can crank your system, check out this funny song called "cat daddy" it comes up first in the youtube results. It has some crazy mid punch bass and then it's got some insane low drops, and clean bass. This isn't my normal type of music but I love the bass on it!
