Yup...once I run REQ and set the subs volume at whatever position, I use the trim level for any further adjustments. Anyhow...just waiting on PSA to send me a purchase link and I'll be ordering the xs30 within the next 24hrs....

Awesome! XT32 is a complete shocker when you first hear it. I certainly wasn't expecting that level of improvement over XT. Muddy bass is now history.

Fingers crossed that your port noise stays away.

Thanks, even though I am still thinking about returning the XV15 (still in return window, final decision after this weekend movie run) and order the XS30. Now I know what money can get you in this hobby.

In my opinion, upgrading from the XV15 to a XS30, there's no way you'll be disappointed the improved performance. You'll probably find yourself wanting a second one.

In our early years, we would go on "staycations." We were in Silicon Valley so we could travel up to San Francisco for a day of shopping with the wife, go to the MOMA and ride the cable cars and check out the local eateries. The next day, we'd go to Capitola (a poor man's Carmel just South of Santa Cruz), hangout on the beach, check out the food cantinas around the lagoon and wander the boutiques. At night, we'd go home and enjoy a current videos or go to dinner and a movie. I hate traveling but I love a week long staycation.

(saves a bundle on airfare that can be used for toys)

Lol smile.gif I must admit it's still in consideration eek.gif, I going increase the gain on the sub and watch a few demo scenes if no port noise it's a keeper. Otherwise it's either XS30 or VTF-15 (please don't tell shadyj I said that smile.gif ).

You are increasing the trim from what Audyssey set? By how much? And you're using DEQ as well? What RLO?

BTW, you're not supposed to change the gain on the sub itself, but make all changes in the AVR's trim setting.

EDIT: If you make changes on the sub's gain control after Audyssey calibration, then Audyssey has no way of knowing this and can't make any frequency adjustments that it needs to make when the trim is raised or lowered. I suggest that you give Audyssey's settings a try for at least a week before making changes.

Got you, so leave the gain Audyssey recommended (which was 1:30) and then increase the level in the AVR( currently -7.5) to my taste?

Yes (I edited my prior post while you were typing). Audyssey has no way of knowing that you made any changes when you adjust the sub's gain control. Also, how much are you raising the trim from what Audyssey set? Again, I can't stress enough how much a lowly, single, XV15 fills my 23x16x8 room, and I raised the sub trim only 1.5db from what Audyssey set, and I use DEQ with a 0db RLO and I listen at a -10db MV at the loudest, and usually -12db to -13db (for Blu-ray) .

Give the Audyssey settings some time as in a week you'll be amazed and look back and laugh at yourself for needing to make major adjustments. Your single XV15 is MORE than capable, if you just give it a chance. wink.gif

No longer. When I retired in Nov 2010, we moved to the mountains above Chico. It's an area that reminds us of Bolder Creek and Hwy 9 but with better infrastructure and side roads.

(the South Bay Area is a great place to work and raise a family. i could not have asked or found a better place to spend one's professional career. it's definitely not a place one wants to retire to)

Well, I got 4 XS15s scattered around the room...I just got a Mini DSP about a week ago and have been measuring and tweaking about 2-3 hours a night for the past week....so, that much of a bump in bass may not be my final number, but in the past it's what I've always used.

Last night I ended up here, this is Audyssey on with EQ from the Mini DSP.:

I didn't get to listen very loud last night after this session (wife was in bed), but thought I may have heard some bottoming out on the subs. Music lost some impact from my last curve, but movies are sounding really really good right now.

I think that this curve that I had the night before may have sounded a bit better all around, I know music had more impact:

The difference between last night (top) and the night before (bottom) is that I inverted the phase on the back subs and I seemed to get much better extension. Not sure if this is the correct way yet, need to do more testing tonight.

BTW, pay no attention to that hump at 100hz - it's my mains and I'll have to get some treatments to bring that down.

Dumb question because I can't find the answer: Does anyone know how long these guys take to ship out your new toy once you place your order? I ordered an XV15 and I'm anxiously (maybe that's impatiently! LOL!) awaiting the confirmation for that, since I only got my initial order confirmation from Sunday, and that's it. I was kind of hoping to have my new toy this weekend or by Thanksgiving at the latest. biggrin.gif

Tom told me there is a 2 week lead time for veneer finishes not sure about the standard finish products....knowing that and the the fact I'm in Canada I'd say...I'll be looking at about 2+wks once my order is placed pending anything unforeseen.

Ah shoot! I am not too many states away from them, though I don't know where they actually ship from. I guess that is important to mention the finish I ordered, which is just the generic satin black, since that goes with everything else in my living room.

They are near Youngstown, not too far from the PA border.

Shoot them an email, they are good about getting back to you.
