There is a backorder on power X drivers currently and they expect a shipment on the 27th or so. I am in the same boat waiting on an XV30f.

Hi Everyone,

I recently purchased a Denon X4000. Love it. I also recently bought a XV15 with the base before the new XV15 was released. My question is this. Will there be any sound/performance difference between the XV15 with the base versus the one with just the legs? The subs will be sitting on carpet. I am looking to add a second XV15. Your help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Kevin

I asked Tom about any difference in sound quality between the two designs, and he told me that there is no sound difference or benefit for either design. He said they changed it mostly due to shipping costs. I have very thick, plush carpet on the white, thick, foam style premium pad, and I have plenty of space between the driver and the carpet. They designed the legs to stand off the sub from the carpet by a large amount. I prefer the non base look myself, and that was a consideration prior to purchasing it.

If you want them to both be cosmetically the same Tom sells the base separately . You could also remove the base on the one you have or get a piece of marble or granite and make a base for both.

Hmm only a 1.4db boost at 18hz, I think you should be good!

I think I will order the XV15 base. The SO just said we should have the look of the subs match. Thanks for the comments.

I'm about 100 pages behind in this thread, but I wanted to share some XV-30f porn:

I've only run Audyssey MultEQ XT32 on my Marantz AV8801 and have not done any micro-tweaks, but these things have no problem filling the room. I can't imagine what dual Triaxes sound/feel like because these babies are plenty for my 14x21x8 room.

Pay no mind to the (lack of) paint job... you can't see that stuff behind the screen and false wall. smile.gif

Thanks for the kind words, folks! This is my first home theater and I was frankly a little scared that things wouldn't work when I first turned everything on. lol

I could not be happier with my choice of the XV-30fs. I talked to Tom months ago and described my theater project. He recommended the XV-30fs. They fit nicely behind the false wall where other large subs (XV-30, for example) would not fit. I know I got lucky with the sub placement because I frankly don't have a lot of placement options... Because they are behind a black GOM false wall, I meet the WAF as well. tongue.gif

I am running a 7.1 setup with Atlantic Technology 8200e LRs (with an LR for a center) and 8200e dipole surrounds. The rears are Atlantic Technology 4200e LRs 4400s (I prefer direct firing for the rears... personal choice)

The screen is a Stewart Studiotek 130 G3 w/ micro-perf. I'm running a 54" CIH set-up so the picture is approx. 10.5 ft wide when viewing 2.35:1 content. Here is a pic with the screen installed (the black GOM panels are not installed in this pic):

If you are curious, here is a WIP pic showing the back of the room where the rack is located:

I will take some more pics of the nearly completed room when I get a few things cleaned up in there. Now that the theater is operational, I somehow haven't been able to find the time for finishing the job. hehe.

That is a great setup. Love the false screen. Very cool. Which reminds me that I have not posted in a while ever since I remodeled my theater. A similar setup except I am using dual XS 30. Please post your impressions once you calibrated your subs.

I ever hit the lottery, quit laughing :P I'm going to build a great home theater. Ahhhh dreams smile.gif

Plus, I couldn't let this thread fall off any more pages.

I'm thinking about adding another XV15. The one I have, for me anyway, does a great job. But... maybe another one. lol smile.gif

Just curious, since I really don't have many places to put it, due to outlets... I can either put another one on top of the other, or right next to it. Is there a preference?

I could be wrong but if it was me itd seem to make more sense to stack them on top each other. You'd get the most gain in output but wouldn't be utilizing your best potential for bass smoothing throughout the room. If the one you have works great then a 2nd one should had add to your satisfaction. Is it because you have no other possible locations? If so then stacking them should be good.

Packed my XV30s up tonight. Wow, back and neck hurts! smile.gif Had trouble with the plastic wrap and ripped it some, but after we got the speakers on the pallets we figured there was no way we were going to remove them, wrap the plastic, and try and lift with the slippery plastic on them.

Sorry to see them go. They're in extremely good/mint condition - not sure if anyone's looking for one or two and if Tom will do special requests. I'd estimate I put about 50-75 hours on them in the 6-9 months I had them. No issues whatsoever. On to the Triax! smile.gif

Benefit of only living a few hours away. Shipped Friday, it's at the warehouse in the area now looks like. Should get it Mon/Tues, likely Tuesday since I didn't receive an appointment call over the weekend.

I'm feeling a bit of trepidation. The only corner available is where the electrical main and water mains are. Can't imagine the damage the Triax can wreck there smile.gif That or I'll have to set it in the middle of a wall somewhere. Moot point though at the moment since I probably won't have a 220/240 circuit run till next week looks like.

Call first thing in the morning and say your checking on the status, if it's at your local terminal R&L will probably be able to bring it that day. I got mine 2 days earlier this way. It'll sit there for a day or 2 sometimes before you actually get a call. I put mine in a corner and it's done very well there so far. Only complaint is that I like to keep my room OCD clean but every time I blast the Triax, ceiling drop falls on everything eek.gif do you have any demos to test it with, movie clips or songs? This thing is hungry for bass!

So I watched world war z for the first time today. There is a grenade explosion that has a crazy bass pulse in it. Anyway I watched it at -18 with my bass hot and at the end of that pulse my XV-15 made a "flapping" noise. I turned it down a little to -22 and it didn't do the same thing. Is this port noise or am I bottoming the driver or what? Should I be careful not to do it anymore?(i.e not listen as loud) This is the first time I've had something like this happen.

Thats port noise. If you bottom the driver (which i beleive the xv15 has a limiter to prevent) you will hear and extremely loud 'clack' that is unforgettable. You will know

Had it happen a few times with my old svs cs25-31
