I think it's the crux of the whole issue.

A sub with all drivers / ports facing the same way will have an advantage in half-space (outside) if they are pointing in the direction of the mic, but in-room it doesn't matter as most radiated acoustical energy is reflected back by walls, ceiling and floor.

No. The numbers are for the XV15 measured outside at 2m COMPENSATED for the driver not facing the microphone. This is the basis for Josh's "dual driver" and triple driver" compensation as well.

Exactly, this is why you can take a "front firing" sub and orient it so it faces AWAY from the seating usually get as good if not better performance(measured at the seating).

Has anyone else watched Transformers - Age of Extinction? During the movie, I found myself looking over at my dual XV-15se subs in amazement and even a little bit of shock at the bass that was emanating from them. Both of my kids were stunned with eyes wide and mouths open. This was all at -17 dB too. We were all like WOW, did you hear that?

Happy, happy, happy.

No........the numbers he posted are 2m rms ground plane outdoors, but they are corrected with the proper way to measure a sub placement in relation to the measuring mic. A sub that has the ports and driver on the baffle will always test a bit higher. A sub with only the driver on the baffle and port placed elsewhere needs several measurements taken and a combined average will be needed to calculate actual output. The XV15 was tested with the port facing the mic which exaggerated the upper end roll off. The data is out there if you search but some will still persistent in misinterpreting that data and using it to bash Tom's products. Part of the reason why I posted what I did previously.

Always opt for more woofage then you need. You can always turn them down and it's nice to have a sub(s) that doesn't run out of steam.

Yep a couple weeks ago. I posted in the master list of bass movies about it. Definitely a bass fest, but the story line is crap. The good thing is all the deep bass in the movie masks that.

My setup is on the right side of a 16'x32'x8' room on the second floor with a large opening on the left side to a loft and foyer. I have my XV15se subs corner loaded and stacked running about 5db hot from the default Audyssey setting with Dymanic EQ enabled.

I thought about stacking mine, but a) they weigh a ton and I would need help b) I like the way they look in between my towers c) I don't want to lose the smoothness throughout the room and have the bass concentrated in one area and lose the response at the other seats. P.S. I like your TV stand.

Thanks. Actually amazingly close to my basement theater dimensions (17.5' x 32' x 7.5'). Should be able to buy sub(s) ~December.

Yeah I find it depressing that the quality of LFE in a movie is so often inversely proportional to the quality of the story itself.

That's why demos discs are so handy IMHO.

At the same time I wish there was more exceptional movies (and video games) with great LFE and surround effects. Sometimes I'm surprised though -- recently I've seen a French movie about a stroke victim (not an action movie mind you) and from time to time in the movie the narrator imagines himself being submerged in water. The LFE used there, sparingly, really made it sound like you're underwater. The same with Antichamber -- in that videogame from time to time you enter special zones that sound like you're underwater, and the LFE effect there is awesome.

I think I really dislike frequency sweeps such as World War Z's second grenade scene -- in retrospect they're a bit cheap and arbitrary.

That line was a reference to a poster on these forums that refered to PSA's subs - and I think any sub under 3k - as a throw away sub. He is also someone that like to try to trash Tom V when he gets the chance.

Thanks man. I love the increased output of having dual stacked corner loaded subs, and it looks badass too.

I'm fortunate to have no nulls across the entire seating wall.

Hmm I think you need a XV30F up front and use the XV15's as end tables.

This is the second thread I've seen people raving about it, sounds like I may need to add this to my wish list.

Seems like just when I think I know what the xv15se's have on tap another movie comes along and shows me they have more.

With the XS30SEs and watching T4 I had to turn down the MV to -25, I started the movie at -15 and the 30s actually had my concrete walls cracking, my wife came down from upstairs and said her candle jars were rattling off the glass shelves, that movie from the first minute was way over the top, I liked it though, not the movie or the acting but it was a visual and audio smorgasburh
Cheers Jeff
