2. I have the older version with the wood "base plate" on the bottom instead of the feet like I see on the website now. Has anyone replaced the driver on one of these? Is it hard to get to? I haven't ever flipped it over to see how I would remove the "base".
I upgraded 3 Base plate XV15's in early may. Search the thread, I have a full tutorial on the upgrade process. On a side note yes the SE is a worthy upgrade, but the original was no slouch either. I find the SE models to sound tighter and a bit more accurate. I do not notice much difference in output except during the Pulse server scene. I am getting about a 5-7db gain during that scene compared to the old drivers and amp calibration.

If you only have one subs now I would put that money towards a second XV sub, then you can compare them side by side risk free.

I also have a XV15 and was tempted on the SE upgrade and with Tom's help, he advised to get a 2nd sub (XV15SE) and that would make a bigger impact than the SE upgrade for my situation. I'm in the process of finishing the basement and have it prewired for a 2nd sub in the rear. I'll pull the trigger when it's completed.

Just a heads up, we can also build non SE versions for anyone looking to match(exactly) their XS15(749), XV15(799), XS30(1149), or XV30(1399).

Anyone interested should email me support@powersoundaudio.com

Now I want a second XS15se. I don't need one, just want another one.

Damn you Tom.

I think I'm getting a new AVR first though. More pressing need there.

I still have one of each, an original XV15 and a XV15SE. Both are playing nicely with one another. When I did side by side comparisons I found there to be some differences between the drivers. Over all I agree with what Basshead said about the largest difference being the SE version seems to be a little tighter. For me the output is about the same at the levels I listen at. I had planned to upgrade my original XV15 to the SE version by now but financial restraints have prevented me from doing that. Both are great subs.

Agreed. I too have an XV15 and an XV15se. Because of placement it's hard to tell the differences. But Wow. They sound great.

i also have one of each, but will be doing the second one very soon. kids cost too damn much and cut into my fun money, lol. when i first got the upgrade set, i a/b'd the two of them. same spot, same settings...one at a time. to my ears, there was a definite difference between the two. tighter, more powerful, just more dynamic overall. if it was close, i wouldn't bother spending the 275 to upgrade the second one. the old ones are certainly not slouches....but the se is just that much better.

I too received an envelope from Tom and PSA on Saturday. What a great surpirse at the the end of the day. After 5 hours of working on the ceiling of my unfinished basement, I just had to go turn on the Increible Hulk and crank up the XV15SE! Great customer service, and even better product. It is the little things like this that will keep me a returning customer and avid fan of PSA!

it sure is the little things that go a long way....

I consider Tom a friend...funny enough...and my wife was like...did you get a PSA credit card?? then she opened it...no note, nothing just the badges...pretty awesome

didnt mean to make anyone jelous or create more work for Tom, but I had to acknowledge a great CS of a company I will back no matter what.

but honestly to go back into their order list (been almost a year since I bought my second XS30) and send these out unsoclicited is pretty amazing..

now for my PSA speakers to get here!

I peeled my badge off. I like the 'monolith' look. Plus my badge was off by a fraction of an inch- not much, but noticeable and it would drive me absolutely bonkers if I kept it on there. I stuck it on the back of my laptop, now it looks like a PSA Laptop.

I bought the SE upgrade for my single XV15 with base over the summer and it was very easy to install. IMHO it was well worth the price. I debated on getting a second XV15 as opposed to the SE upgrade, but decided on the SE upgrade. No regrets at all, but a second XV15 is still in the back of my mind.

I've been playing with the idea of moving my original XV15 upstairs and incorporating it into my living room system instead of upgrading it to the SE version. Then I would buy another XV15SE to put in the basement theatre to match the one I already own. I can't swing the cost of that right now but hopefully sometime in the future.

After got the Xv15SE a few days, i found out that i missed a whole level of enjoying the movies with my old 10inch subwoofer in the past few years . Now I want to bring my movies hobby to new level and bought a XS30SE last night. Love the big beats with dual 15inch driver so much. And this beats is damn heavy , near 50kg in real wood.

Same here. I don't really have room for a second XV15 (unless I stacked them) so I figured I would just go with the SE upgrade. It's been well worth the $275... there's a big difference in sound IMO. PSA took a great sub and made it even better!
