Very well said my friend, I really hate reading your posts especially about your dual XV30s, now that PSA has the XV30FSE I may have to add them to my collection as well, the only problem they would make for very high end tables That's the only sub(s) that have not been in my home, Jim email in the morning. Question please, I have a set of XV15se on loan for a couple more weeks,
I'm thinking that I may want/need more bass!!!! go figure,,,,he,,,,he,,,,,
What would you add, two more and I may not have room for me and the Mrs.
I have room for one more sub, but which one??
I do get low deep rumbles and shakes, I may need a little higher Hz 60 to 100, would anyone go with a single XS30se or something else.

I just would hate to go with that large a footprint.

Would a SVS cylinder be a huge mismatch?,,,,just grabbing at straws here.
Please help. 8)

Wait for the 18" and return them all??
But, I can't live without any subs,,,

Those are all sold already but we can build more of course..

And yes, the XV15se and XV30se work very well together as do the XS15se and XS30se.

While more subs is always a good thing , you should be absolutely certain that you have the subs you own properly set up before throwing money at more. I suggest getting a calibrated USB microphone, a mic boom and REW to measure your response and see what's going on in your room.

Also, mixing sealed and ported subs is generally considered a bad idea. If you do decide you need more subs, more XV15s would be the direction I would go...don't forget that you can stack them so they don't take up any more floor space.

Plus 1.

While it may seem like a real pain to go through the measurement process it will really pay off in the long run. If dual XV15se aren't getting it done for you it could be...

1)room induced peak/nulls at the seat
2)subwoofer to main speaker cancellations
3)subwoofer to subwoofer cancellation
4)other

Do you have a SPL meter?

Well I was thinking... would it be possible to design a ported sub in which the port(s) would be external? Could go even better with a Harley. On one hand it wouldn't be that practical at first sight but on the other, one reason why the enclosures of ported subs are so huge is that they have to house the ports. Perhaps you could build a smaller enclosure if the ports could extend out of it.

I am guessing you have the typical cancellation around crossover point sucking out the mid bass. Common problem that has been discussed here many times. Google subwoofer distance tweak. Also you might try a sub crawl, but the best option is to download REW and purchase a measuring mic. My 3 XV15's hit over 128db above 40hz and I seriously doubt anybody needs more output then 122-125db through most of the bandwidth.

Exactly

I wouldn't buy one but I was just wondering if there was a reason it isn't acoustically possible. You could have a motorbike configuration with the ports bent as tailpipes towards the rear; or even an "organ" configuration with pipes going straight up.

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't this change the whole setup into a bandpass enclosure?

It does show though that there's nothing wrong with external pipes

It didn't change the system design...still basic 4th order vented. What this did was allow you to maintain two ports(open) even if you selected the "max extension" mode. Ilkka measured it years ago and found no/little performance benefits while adding a undesirable 120hz "pipe organ" resonance to the system.

I received my xs15se this morning. And I want to say Thank you to Tom and power sound audio. Not only does this sub meet the all important WAF. I don't miss my dual fv15hp. After spending the first few hours doing a sub crawl. And finally getting the sub dialed in. It is a perfect match for my bedroom. It's so much bass. I had to set it at -6db. This is a really great sub. It beat all my expectations.

No trade ins just additions Jim. I bet I can pretty much duplicate dual Triaxs by stacking two more XS30SEs on top of my duals now. That sounds like a winner to me but I promised Jim I would wait till my speakers get here and run REW and post some graphs for you guys to decipher or better yet I learn how to read a graph, the only thing is you have to take a measurement first
Cheers Jeff
