I hope your exam went well! E7 is a big deal for navy. Killer picture and review, late responding as I just discovered this company and am slogging my way through the thread.

It really boils down to what YOU like.

This is what I am setting myself up to expect. Most of my deliveries from various carriers arrive later in the afternoon around 4 or 5 CST. The day this is delivered it will be at like 10am, I just know it. Expecting this, but hoping that when I get home at 2:30 that he hasnt arrived yet.

This brings up a question I have:

Here's my situation - I currently have 2 XS15s up front, next to my FL/R speakers (REW says this is best placement), with an older (circa 1995) Velodyne F1500 sitting directly behind my chair (crossed at 60hz) that I want to replace with a PSA so that they all match (and the Velo has a questionable amount of life left in it).

I absolutely LOVE the rumble that the Velo gives me with this extreme near-field placement, but my wife's chair is getting none of this extra rumble. Her seat is also in a null for the current XS15s - just not much bass in her chair at all. The couch sounds just as good as my chair (where she usually sits when watching movies), but with a little less rumble.

My thought is either 2 XS15s (1 behind each chair) or 1 XS30 (placed between our chairs, replacing an end table)....or maybe even the 2 XS15s, but one in each back corner (if the extreme nearfield is too much with the PSAs).

Thoughts?

part of the reason I went with the xv15's over the xs...another 8db output in the 16-40hz range.
I would do 1 xs 30 between the two chairs...I think the cabinent design would work well with that situation. you and your wife would each have a 15" driver slamming your chairs!

Good to hear you made the board, hope it all goes well for you. PSA products look pretty cool, I have been doing DIY subs for awhile, but the cost/performance ratio of PSA look hard to beat. Computer modeling is not always sufficient compared to actual skills and experience. I emailed today so I will see what they suggest.

I think 2 xv15's would have a hair more output than one xv30 since you would have 1000watts rms vs 750, but yes should be close to the same.

I just ordered the XS30 to go with my new Marantz AV8801! Question: is anyone here using an Auralex underneath the Xs30? Is one even needed because it's dual-driver?

Thanks!

I just took delivery on a pair of XS15s for my living room theater. They replace a single PC12-NSD, now retired to my bedroom setup smile.gif

Early experiments with phase make it clear that I'm going to need to pick up a proper mic. Still, I've made a couple of crude adjustments that made a big difference, and I'm really enjoying the sound for music and HT.

I'll be doing Master List demo scenes all weekend. Right now it's Inception biggrin.gif

I don't think that the best placement for both XS15's. Have you tried placing them in opposite corners and see how that sounds?

I have not heard of too many XS30 owners using them. I personally wouldn't see the point in using one. Do you use one for your current sub?

So basically if you were to put two XV15's right beside each other you would gain about 6db, and if you were to put one in each corner of your front wall you would gain about 4db.

So two XV15's located together would have more output then a single XV30. If you had the one in each corner of your front wall the output would be about the exact same. But keep in mind that dual XV15's would help out with smoother bass, and would help out better with nulls and room modes.

personally I would take dual XV15's over a single XV30. But logically I would just get dual XV30's and not worry about the XV15's wink.giftongue.gif

The XV30's are super big though. I cleared out some room but now I'm starting to freak out about getting them to fit. I think I may lay them on their side with drivers exposed so they're not as tall. May just install one and see how that goes to see if I need the second.
