Psa s1500!

Folks, just wanted to say that I ordered a B-stock S1500 and an anti-mode 8033 S II this morning. In fact, it is on its way to me as we speak. Now that is what I call customer service. Tom V. is very easy to talk to and is very knowledgeable. Just wanted to say hello to everyone here. Hope to learn much on this thread.

Cheers,

Phil

There is also a lot to be said for output capability in the mid and upper bass.

So I agree somewhat with your statement that high output is needed at low frequency to matter, but I think it matters very little regardless of output below a certain point. Other than bragging rights.

I agree with that statement, I was trying to convey the same message but my mind got ahead of my typing. The bragging rights is the part I forgot to include.....

@Brian , good to have you back Brother, I just quoted the same thing in the speaker forum. Is it still OK to call you Brian or should we address you as the "Five Card Stud"....

Cheers Jeffrey

So, something very strange happened today - I came home to my V3600 inexplicably on, and making a horrible humming sound. No other equipment was on, and the only way I could stop it was to unplug. Once I plugged it back in, the problem didn't persist. I tested it, and it sounds fine, but I'm mystified by this one. Anyone ever have this problem?

Klipsch RF-7 II's, RC-64II, RS-62 II's, RS-52 II's
PSA V3600I
Marantz SR7008 with TK421 Modification
Emotiva XPA-5
Sony XBR-75x940c with Ideal-Lume Panelight
Samsung PN64F8500 (Master Bedroom)

Still Undecided ...

Not a bass head here, just want to feel a nice rumble with a front firing sub and maybe a 2nd one next year. I'm coming from a 100w 8" sub, so I am sure anything that handles 16-18Hz will be perfect but must meet $1000 WAF.

Breakdown with advertised LF:

At $1100 + free SH the PSA v1500 with 725w amp is the standard to compare using PSA's numbers 16Hz

At $800 the SVS PB-2000 with 500w amp has a nice metal grille, 17Hz.

At $900 + $140 SH the HSU VTF-15H MK2 with 600w amp and is highly recommended everywhere, 16Hz

At $900 + $140 SH the Rythmik FVX15 has good numbers but the Rythmik with 400w amp might be a consideration, 12Hz

At $1200 + $140 SH the Rythmik FV15HP has 600w and also has a impressive 12Hz low, but FR starts to roll off at ~18Hz so not sure it's worth stretching the budget.

I also read this thread about the PSA vs HSU and was most interesting

HSU VTF15-MK2 or PSA V1500

Hello all! So I received my V1500 today and all I can say is WOW! First let me start by saying that the customer service that I have received from Tom is second to none. Whether it was thru email or the few phone calls, it was nothing short of awesome. PSA has definitely earned themselves a lifelong customer. I even ordered some t-shirts
Now to the sub. First the build quality is amazing! I was running a HSU VTF-3 MK4 and just felt like I wanted more(doesn't everyone lol). I ordered my V1500 Monday and received it today, I unboxed it and hooked it up. I ran my test tones and proceeded to run it thru its paces. Man this sub goes deep and loud. My HSU extended low but without a whole lot of authority. I could feel it, but with the PSA it's a completely different experience. Playing FoP during the plane crash, I now truly know what it means to pressurize a room. My first reaction was holy s**t!! The amount of tactile response is just incredible. And yet, it stays refined and controlled when listening to music. I could go on, but I think you get the point. Thank you Tom and the PSA team, you guys are awesome!!

Great looking set up. Damn, that thing looks like a BEAST!!

Just curious, are you running your speakers through an external amp? I'm just running my ML Motion 40's and 8 through my AVR, a Pioneer SC-81. I ask this because I keep thinking that for my set up a huge sub like this may be a bit overkill.

I'm just running everything thru my Yamaha RX-A1030. Once I got the sub dialed in today, it blends in seamlessly with my Klipsch. And yes, it is a beast

Again, I would order both the PSA and SVS and use the free trial perk both companies offer. Even include RA into that if you are willing to wait 6-8weeks. We can all sit here and try to convince you what to buy until we are blue in the face, but why not just use the free trial to your advantage?

We need Shady and Beeman back (not necessarily in this thread). They seemed to always liven things up around here.

Go with the fv15hp, the hsu mk2, or the v1500. The overall performance is so close between them you're at the splitting hairs point. The bigger differences are the warranty, free shipping promotion, made in USA, energy compliance, DSP enabled, etc.

The pb2000 is a knife to a gun fight with this crowd.

I agree about both. Shady was relentless he really hated either PSA, Tom or both with a passion.

I wonder what even happened to Blackmamba? I recall he saying that he worked at a dangerous job but that's why it paid so much, I don't think he's posted in over a year now.

Yeah I was thinking about Blackmamba about a month ago. He used to post all the time and was then suddenly quiet. Then (after he had been away for a while) one day he posted out of the blue. I cold be wrong but IIRC I remember him posting something regarding a family member and health issues. He said that was taking up a lot of his time. He also mentioned getting back in the gym and spending a lot go time working out. And that was that….I haven't seem him post since.

He was cool, I really liked him.

I always worry about regular posters that I haven’t read here in a long time, especially after a member that I very much enjoyed reading passed away. That hurt. So I’m happy to see Brian back. Beeman use to crack me up. Funny guy. I thought he might have tried to come back by now. Actually, I miss most of Shadyj’s posts as I thought he brought a lot to the table (when he didn’t go on Tom and PSA rants).
