I really wish there was a V1800 in the outlet... I think that would be a good compromise for me at the moment... And satisfy my upgrade itch lol.

Why come into this complaining after the fact? Why act like the terms texture and sandpaper are synonymous and that the comment was not disparaging? I doubt Tom V took that as "damn, that's a guy that would take a bullet for me!"

PSAs core values are obviously not important to you. I'm sure Tom V offered you trade-in credit for your sandpaper S1500 for one with a premium finish, no? How did your end of the conversation go? Try to nickel & dime to get premium for sandpaper price? The prices for premium finishes as they are still better values than SVS. Why choose made in China?

Can anyone comment on how warm the 1700 ice amps get?
I played a bunch of scenes from cloverfeild today around -12mv subs running 6db hot. I notice the amp on the gammas was nearly room temp while the 3600s were pretty warm.

Now I realize a warm amp doesn't really mean there is an issue, and that the back plate is designed to disperse heat.

I'm just curious to why it so much warmer.

I did measure spl to double check all subs are working equally and the 3600s aren't running hotter or anything.

3600s are nearfeild while gammas are up front about 10 feet from mlp or so

I feel like the amp is 90 something degrees but that's a guess. I can EASILY still hold my hand on the amp without getting burnt or feeling uncomfortable or anything like that.

Anyway, just curious. Thanks

I'll also add that I didn't feel like I was even pushing any of the subs hard at all. No bad noises or sounds of distress

Couple more questions to help me figure this out.... If I just kept my 15v for now, several years later could I add a V1800 or would it not blend well because of the size difference?

If I exchanged my 15v for the V1800 now, would it be a very noticeable increase?

It sounds like you have an emotional investment in psa which is fine, but I was replying to a specific member my take on the situation... I ordered a v1800.

You could add anything you want but you will have to do the appropriate work to determine the best location. You could in theory have the v1800 up front in the sweet spot and then find the best location for the 15v nearfield (close to the listening position) to increase tactile bass response and slam. They should work together fine but you have to do the work with setting the timing and such. This is easier with REW or an AVR with subEQ that can time align them for you.

If you exchange it outright for the v1800 you will gain a bit of output in exchange for a larger footprint but I don't know how immediately noticeable it would be in your room. If I had to guess I'd say if you took your 15v and added another half of the 15vs output that is about where a v1800 falls in. Just remember that measurements taken by manufacturers are done in controlled environments. Your room will have nulls, reflections, room gain etc.

^^^^I agree word for word @Rfitz89 !

@newc33 , I believe the 1400W and 1700W amp modules are the same. The difference will be the impedence load of the driver(s). The S3600 amp is most likely producing more power than the G21 because it is driving 2 subs wired in parallel. Confirm this with Tom over chat.

What's the time frame for the discount if ordering a second sub and what is the discount for an S1500?

I chatted with Tom and he basically said it's completely normal and expected, which I figured would in fact be the case

I don't think it is written in stone but if you ask you might get 5% within the first twelve months.

When I had Gamma218's (used the same ICE1400 plate amp) and the Seaton Submersive HP (using the 2400 torpedo amp) at my GTG where we running them at reference with subs +6db hot and going through 20mins worth of demos per round. My Gamm218's amp was scolding hot compared to @Magibeg luke warm SubM.

That makes sense as Gamma 21 uses the SP 2400W amp and S3600i uses the 1400W ICE power module.

I was mistaken in thinking the G21 used the 1400W as well. ThxπŸ‘

Went back and read the last few pages, makes me realize I'm naive, I never imagined people were ordering 7.1 systems and returning them unopened etc. I've been in chat with Tom many times over last year and he always suggested trying out the sub I was interested in, I must admit a tinge of regret not doing so as I most probably would've kept it, but I wasn't 100% sure and feel bad returning things so I never did.

Thanks for your input!

Defiantly makes sense. I have never even been able to get my torpedo amp anywhere near hot.

The ice amp wasn't scolding hot or anything, just warmer than I'm used to. so I figure I'm in good shape still. As I said there is no way I was pushing that thing at all even at those levels.

Seems likes its normal to me

The side effect of the most lenient return policy is that it will also attract the most irresponsible shoppers. Why perform due diligence when a shopper can order thousands of dollars worth of gear with a few clicks of mouse and return everything without penalty? The end result is people like us who did the research will have to suffer the consequences.
