Yeah it is was like May 24th or 25th. Thankfully I had my 30's to keep me occupied, I would have never made it. I may be without subs for a week or so, I am going to go into bass withdrawal. smile.gif

My SVS 16-46PC+ that I bought new over 10 years ago is still keeping me happy while I wait. Sometimes I wonder if I've lost my mind ordering the Triax.......we'll see after I receive it. wink.gif

Hi
I have the Sunfire Theater Grand IV and it only has adjustable trim levels and crossover points. It sounds like it is really out of date when looking at newer technology like rew etc. Since I have never used anything except the Radio Shack DB meter, may not know what I'm missing. Damn can't wait for triax to arrive.

In truth, in your room, the Paradigm, PW-2200 is not enough subwoofer to evenly keep up with the PSA, XS30 and will leave a noticeable difference when it's capabilities drop out of the equation. In short, your output will suffer, every time the PW-2200 lags the output capabilities of the PSA, XS30. The flub, in the form of the XS30, you're linking the likes of two, fifteen inch subwoofer drives in a sealed room, which are capable of 12Hz playback with that of a single twelve inch driver capable of about 20Hz playback with little output by comparison. It's sort of like a community college team playing the 49er's, despite the 49er's Sunday performance against Seattle. Of course the college team wants to believe they're up to the task, but in short, even though the 49er's totally embarrassed themselves Sunday (the list of reasons is too long to articulate) the college team would get killed. Same for your subwoofer.

(to all who watched yesterday's 49'er game, my apologies)

In my opinion, FWIW, music is not Home Theater and Home Theater is not music. Mostly, music is a continuous bass line where as Home Theater is sound effects; NASCAR vs Top Fuel drag racing. For the most part, NASCAR is arguably run at a continuous speed and the drag racing is balls to the wall, in less than five seconds, zero to plus three hundred MPH and pop the chute, or the ability of the engine to provide instantaneous headroom to drive the Home Theater sound special effects laden sound track. Two different auto sports with two different purposes. Music and Home Theater are the same, two different types of bass reproduction within the same driver based genre. In conflict with what others might have to say on the matter, my opinion, build for (music or Home Theater) and the other will follow.

When putting your subwoofer, sound reproduction system together, realize; "YOU MUST HAVE ROOM MEASURING CAPABILITY." If one doesn't take the time to download and install a freeware copy of REW, with measuring microphone and sound meter in hand, they're "NEVER" going get the best (tight, smooth, even) bass out of "ANY" subwoofer, sound reproduction system. Once set up, to the best REW measures, both styles of sound reproduction will be what you're wanting, tight, smooth, even bass that a listener will find engaging.

Does your AVR have Audyssey, MultEQ XT or XT32 as an EQ program? To get the best out of your nearfield placed subwoofer, you'll need an AVR provided EQ capability such as is the case of the forum standard, Audyssey and room measuring capability to aid with subwoofer placement.

Wow,
Thanks for the insight.

I have REW downloaded. Also have Audyssey XT32.
You confirmed exactly what Tom said about the characteristics of the XS 30 and the PW2200. Your analogy is great to. Totally understand what you are explaining. Thanks for your time. Appreciate it.

Just purchased an XS30. Will pick up end of this week.

I am ecstatic, and Tom i want to take the time to thank you for always returning my emails and talking with me on the phone. This service and reputation that PSA is building is what persuaded me away from SVS. Not to mention that everyone on the forums seems to rave about these subs.

This is my first ID company purchase for a subwoofer and i am sure it will not be my last with PSA.

Welcome to the club - I added an XS30 to my system a few months ago - I expect you will be quite pleased with the results once you install your XS30 - let us know how it sounds....

Your fine, everybody that ordered the Triax lost their mind. I am buying a new truck Monday and I don't know why, I don't need it. I am losing my mind. The truck does a sub box in it though. smile.gif

For those that went from VX15 to XS30 can you share your user reviews, still undecided.

I went from dual XV-15's to dual XV-30's and it was like Ford Focus to a Shelby 500. I have heard similar opinions from the guys that did the same to the XS30's. Have you considered just adding another XV-15?? That would smooth things out for you and double your bass. Either way, just do it, life's short/

Pretty cool...........congrats!

I purchased my XS30 almost two months ago and I'm totally satisfied with this subwoofer..........there is only one problem and it's called:

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
Triax..............tongue.gif

Jokes aside, the XS30 is a really impressive sub, I ordered mine with the Cordovan Cherry finish, the look is incredible as the sound. It helped me to achieve a new level at the mid and upper bass in my system. I'm positive you will be happy with this addition to your system.

Once again congrats!

XS30 vs Triax? You can always buy a second XS30 and stack them. eek.gif...biggrin.gif

(based on your three subwoofer based sound reproduction system, that might qualify as overkill)

That sounds a bit drastic for a 3db gain lol...I would think going from a mustang gt to a shelby gt500 would be a more appropiate analogy.

It is?

Dual XV15's co located = 114.1db ultra low bass and 122.1db low bass

Dual XV30's co located = 117.9db ultra low bass and 125.1db low bass

Oops my mistake...its a 3.8db difference in the ultra low bass and 3db low bass. In theory it should be a 6db difference but it appears the XV30 dsp must be setup slightly different in order to maintain a more linear response. Looks like it has less compression then the XV15.

When you double amp power and driver displacement its a 6db gain. Dual XV30's have twice the displacement of dual XV15's, but only 50% increase on power. That combined with a possible different dsp calibration could be why its only a 3-3.8db difference.

Part of the reason I went with 3-XV15's instead of dual XV30's. Smoother response, smaller for more placement options, 380.95 less, and almost the same output according to the website.

3 XV15's 117.1db ultra low bass, 125.1db low bass co located. 2277.15 shipped

2 XV30's 117.8db ultra low bass, 125.1db low bass co located. 2658.10 shipped

Thats a rule of thumb that can vary...even spread out you can see 3-5db gain. In my room, with my subs placement, I am getting a 9db gain with 3 XV15's over a single. smile.gif

My understanding, each additional co-located, XV30, fifteen inch driver will add 3dB for a total of 9dB and that's if all drivers are of equal Xmax. My above does not take into consideration, boundary gain or corner loading.

3dB for each added driver and 3dB for co-location.
