Yeah...its a nice addition ....I'm glad I upgraded that facet of my system...the mains are NrT. I beleive the CC bascially share the same internal volume & drivers as Towers and they weight ~44lbs....light but the cabinet is inert and knuckle tested...no worries there.
Thanks..smile.gif

So....I got my second pair of XS15s on Wednesday. Spent the afternoon and all the next day pushing, measuring and calibrating. I think I've got them dialed in pretty good. Watched some scenes from Pacific Rim, Total Recall and Word War Z and it sounds really, really good. I watched Iron Man 3 (first time) all the way through and is it just me or does that movie not have as much LFE as you would expect? Still considering getting a Mini DSP.

I originally had a pair of Velodyne F1500s (for the past 20 years), great subs for their day! After one died, I decided to buy the first pair of XS15s which I was planning on using exclusively and paying forward the old Velo - but after integrating the remaining Velo with the PSAs the results were quite satisfying so I kept the Velo in the mix.

Fast forward a few months and the sole remaining Velo died - I immediately noticed a hole in my bass response that no amount of tweaking with the 2 PSAs could remedy.

I decided I would replace the dead Velo with a new XS15 - then the thought kept creeping into my head that I should get 2 more PSAs...I was pretty sure one more would do the job, but I didn't want to be left always wondering, "what would 4 sound like?". smile.gif

Anyways, after integrating all 4 PSAs I've come to the conclusion that 3 really would have been "enough" and that 4 subs is NOT twice as good as 2 subs...that being said, I'm still happy I got 4! The bass is quite a bit smoother now, and my wife's seat actually now has a better response than mine! (I may just have to do something about that one.)

I did expect a bit more output than I'm getting, although I really haven't had a chance to crank it up yet...hopefully this weekend.

I'll post some pics and graphs this weekend.

I meant that if you ordered 1 you would still get the discount as if you were ordering 2, since you are a returning customer.

Nice to hear that the 4 XS15's are smoothing things out. I was considering a 4th XV15 but my response is solid with 3 and I don't need any more headroom, so I think I am set. I would like to see some REW graphs of your setup to see what kind of extension you are getting!

Meanwhile, D Bone is still blown away with his lowly, single XV15 that is front corner loaded in his 23x16x8 living room. cool.gif

A single XV15 is quite capable no doubt, but adding a sibling or two to share the load is on another level.

Will do this weekend. I did get some measurements yesterday but I don't think I'm quite done pushing them boxes around my room....see the reference above to my wife getting better response than me - that's just unexceptable. cool.gif

OK, here's my initial results from the first day of pushing 4 subs around my living room. smile.gif

4880 cubic feet, quad XS15s, Audyssey on, Dyn EQ on, subs + FL/R.

This is unsmoothed FR:

FR with 1/6th octave smoothing:

Waterfall (my noise floor is around 52db):

Spectrogram:

And here is the FR from my wife's recliner in blue, mine in green...initially, I thought it looked better than my response, but after closer inspection I think mine more resembles a proper house curve smile.gif :

What do you guys think? Lookin' good or should I still consider the Mini DSP? Room treatments?

Overall looks pretty good, but I would turn off dynamic eq and see if it flattens the 30hz some so you dont have the 15db drop from 30-15hz. However may not not mind that boost around 30hz.

Here is a graph of my 3 XV15's with no eq emloyed for reference...1/12 smoothing.

I always run my subs hotter when using rew so my mains and ears are not
taking such a beating when running sweeps. That high pitch drives me nuts even with ear plugs. I still like to run 5-7db hot for movies. I need to dig the gear back out and do more testing. This graph was taken within a half hour of hooking up the third XV15 and making a few adjustments. I liked how it sounded so I put the gear away and have been enjoying for a couple months now.

Hey bass.. I was up late last night so decided to ratchet my trim back from –4 to –11 and thought to myself this is about where the bass cops would tell me I should be. –2dB for correction. It sounded pretty good though. That being that.. wink.gif

Hey guys so I received my XV15 yesterday, baby sitter sweet talk the Fedex guy to bring it inside my theater room nice. Got home just hooked it up (no calibration yet) that thing is as silent as a church mouse until you need it. So I got it near field and I can pressure and I am loving it.

Here comes my only issue so far, watched OHF and the monument screen I can hear a loud port noise. Can't stand the port noise and it's freaking me out.

Chuffing?

Turn the gain down a notch or two?

Did you run your AVR's EQ program?

Not yet but I am going run it later, the bass is where I like so I'm very disappointed that is chuffing. You know my expectations were very high on this one.

Ummm yeah I get port noise too if I dont do any calibration, why are you disapointed if you dont even have the sub hooked up right yet? The best and most expensive sub will have port noise and sound boomy or horrible if its not tuned and calibrated right into the rest of your system. Just take a deep breath and run your calibration, then manually adjust what you need to get the sub to sound how it should. Getting a new sub is fun but the first thing to do always is get it properly setup before you can be able to hear what it sounds like, until then you wont be hearing what the sub should sound like or sometimes even close in some cases. What receiver are you using?

Near field not the four corners of the room but corner betw two chairs with port facing the wall. Again bass is great and I feel the pressure just the port noise is my issue, hopefully Audyssey can care that if not Im going sealed. Can't stand port noise.

I hate it when the carburetor can't keep up with the gas peddle. If going with sealed, sealed will be worse because of the problems of a single subwoofer in a room your size. If going single with a sealed subwoofer, my recommendation would be to consider an XS30.

If wanting a single vented subwoofer, consider a XV30 or a XV30f.

True I guess its just my emotions and expectations taken over before I set it up right, I was loving it until the monument came down with the loud port noise. Denon X3000 right upgraping to X4000 (in route).

True I guess its just my emotions and expectations taken over before I set it up right, I was loving it until the monument came down with the loud port noise. Denon X3000 right upgraping to X4000 (in route).

Nice receivers for the price. Actually my low end freq like with that scene you were watching is where audyssey did the greatest improvements. I would get some boomy like response and clipping during scenes like that but after taking my time with audyssey im glad i dont get any of that. Once it tightens up your sub and balances it out, the sub might sound totally different. It sucks having to wait for everything else but atleast you got great equipment for your setup, itll be nice once you have everything picked out and tuned, then the monument seen will be awesome!

It's a really challenging scene, and you're running an un-calibrated ported sub near-field. I totally understand your frustration, but this is kind of a worst case scenario, and not what you can expect in general, once you've done your setup.
