Are the XS30 drivers the same as the XV/15?

I'm right there with ya. I want to pull the trigger on a 2nd XV30f.. OR..if I can sell my current XV30f I'll order 2 XV15s which is all I really need. 2 XV30s is just overkill tongue.gif

I borrowed a friend's sub last weekend to test duals in my living room and it fixed soooo many issues. Want a 2nd sub ASAP!

I think you will be happy...you wont be loosing much in the 15-30hz area and will have deeper extension. Not sure if you will appreciate the extra mid bass output since your primary source content is movies. Look forward to your impressions.

actually only losing .5db in the 20-31.5hz range...which should be made up by room gain...and the 40-63hz area is up over 6db.

but on the contrary...I am about 70%music/30%movies...only because I dont have the time for movies as I would like....but my main concern for the upgrade really is more extension in movies smile.gif

I showed my wife a graph or two. "See that drop at 25Hz??? Its -14db! The one at 20Hz is worse!"

She looks at me and says.."will you stop dorking around with this stuff every weekend if we get a 2nd sub?"

"YES!" I say

"Ok..fine..get it so I can stop hearing about it".

You could also tell her that by adding bass traps in the corner you could reduce standing waves and enhance linear bass response

I didn't get a response at Rythmik thread so I will try here....

I am looking for a new sub to replace my Mirage S12. My room size is 21x16x8 (2700 cubic feet) with 2 openings at the back to the kitchen and foyer. I am looking for more slam and output. Can the LV12R do the job or pay extra $200 to step up to PSA XV15 ? I am 95% movies/ 5% music.

Ranger, I don't think too many of us can comment on the LV12R sub, as most if us are very content with our PSA subs. That being said, there are several members here with that size room utilizing a XV-15 and are very happy. Can you comment a little more in depth what you are looking for and what your listening habits are like? How about placement options?

Brian, I was pleasantly surprised in the music department when I went from the XV-15 to the XS30. The sound just seemed to come across much smoother and without effort. As you already know, content plays a major factor as well (quality wise). Can't wait to hear your thoughts!

I can't say about the LV12R unfortunately, however, if you went PSA I would think the XV line would do best given your room size and openings.

You did mention slam which I take to mean 50Hz and up chest slam. It's possible that an XS15 might sound more to your liking? I would suggest that you email PSA and see what Tom recommends. Give him a layout of your room and what exactly you are looking for soundwise from your sub.

I'm sure he can steer you in the right direction.

I am looking for a sub that can play louder at lower frequencies (20-25 hz) and feel the chest-thumping bass; I guess something that can pressurize the room. I am not getting this with the S12. My friend has a Outlaw LFM-1 EX in his basement (similar size to my room) and it thumps with authority. I am looking for something smaller than the LFM-1 and VTF-3 MK4. I can place the sub anywhere along the front wall, along left side wall, or back left corner (where my S12 currently at).

Any chance you could have your friend bring the outlaw over to your place to try out a few different spots to see if you get the pressurization you are looking for? If the Outlaw can pressurize it then The XV-15 wouldn't have any issues. The chest thumping bass is in the higher frequencies, say 50-60hz and above...

This is from an email from Tom:
In terms of output, the XV15 and XS30 will be fairly close in the 15-35hz range. But in the mid and upper bass(40-100hz) the XS30 will have a substantial edge. In fact you will be looking at about twice the output(or a 5-7dB increase in headroom).

The measurements i gave were from the spec pages on psa.com

I am not sure where you are going with this? I have exchanged the same emails with Tom and this topic has been covered many times in this thread. Where did I dispute any of this? Fyi I know where the measurements you gave came from...lol

Me too, sometimes I'll go a whole week and forget I've got a setup right beside my bed, then I turn it on just to make sure the bass is still there. Just like warming up a hot rod every now and then, just making sure everything sounds good. Sometimes I'll crank up the music until I'm dizzy then I'm like, that was awesome! cool.gif
