I'm afraid you can't go by driver size either, at least not taken in isolation like that. The SVS SB-1000 and PC12-Plus both have a 12" driver, yet the differences between them will be vast.

If you take yourself too seriously expect me to do the exact opposite

I just ordered this sub today from parts express. It should ship tomorrow when it gets in stock. It will be matched with my recently purchased Sony Core Bookshelves and Center and with small Yamaha satellites as surrounds from a Yamaha HTiB I'm also using the AVR from. I'm expecting quite a difference versus the 8" 50 W RMS Yamaha sub I'm using now that came with the HTiB.

UN46EH6030 Calibration/Settings
Display: Samsung UN46EH6030 LED-LCD TV; Sound: Yamaha HTR-3066 AVR/AMP, Sony Core Bookshelves (Sony SS-CS5) and Center (Sony SS-CS8) as fronts, Yamaha NS-AP2600S Satellites as surrounds, Dayton Audio SUB-1200 as subwoofer; Sources: PS4 (doubles as primary BD player), Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360, Motorola RNG150N (Cable Box)

Yeah, just saw that and was very disappointed...

Is there anywhere else I can buy it from?

Not sure, but maybe you can get them directly from Dayton Audio?

I sent Parts Express an email to cancel my order and this is the (now confusing) reply I got:

Thank you for contacting Parts Express. You are certainly correct! We just received our stock in for the subwoofer this morning. Your package will be shipped out today! Are you certain you want to cancel?

Hopefully, this is accurate, I said I want to keep my order if it does ship today.

It now says the 1200 is in stock. 3/17 must have been an error.

I've seen that before at PE, dates coming and going on products. Not saying it's right, only that it wouldn't be the first time.

Be sure to come back and post your thoughts on the SUB-1200. Having owners comments is always useful.

I got it today. I have a question about moving it on carpet. Can I slide it without lifting it off the floor or without wobbling it back and forth on two feet at a time? I ask because it's rather heavy and I'm worried the built-in feet could get damaged.

I don't want to move it far like this, just a few feet at most. How sturdy are the built-in feet? Are they plastic?

Sliding on the carpet should be fine. When I had mine, I had no problem

Good to know... I was just surprised how heavy it was and how much resistance there was sliding it along the carpet. My last sub was only 18 pounds and had a flat bottom, no feet.

I posted a review on parts express under the name HT_GUY. My review was 100% positive and I gave 5 stars.

"Way better than my Yamaha HTIB sub!

I got this a few days ago and it delivers punchy, deep, clear bass with no boominess, noise, or harshness. It's part of a 5.1 setup that started life as a Yamaha HTIB but earlier this year I changed the front 3 to Sony Core Bookshelves and Center and now the sub to this Dayton 1200. For the money, you can't do better than this sub and with a 120 Hz crossover it sounds incredible and really brings my movies to life in a way my old sub never could. And it does this while sounding very smooth and natural, which makes listening at louder volumes easier on the ears and much more enjoyable."

Just placed an order for 4 of these. Hope I did good for $520 shipped.

Really wanted the sub 1500's, but couldn't stomach the extra $275 for them.

The sub-1200 is sometimes available for right around $100. PE often runs a coupon promotion. You probably paid at least $100 more than you could have if you had waited a bit. Why go 4 at once? If you decide these won't work for you, then you have 4 subs to return.

Game room> 60" LG plasma. Onkyo TX-NR509, Infinity Primus P363 fronts, P163 center, P163 rears, PSA XS30 15" dual driver sub. PS4 and XBox One. Living Room> 59" Samsung plasma. Last time sub-1200 was $99 was about 3 months ago. They are due for a sale any time now. They like to run those coupons.

I noticed this the other day. If this is their regular price now, the sub-1200 isn't such a great deal anymore.

The catalog lists a $129 price but they say that's out of date. In any case, I'm not aware of anything equal or greater for $150. Another comparable sub is the Bic America F-12 for about $200.

Well the Dayton sub-1200 is a poster boy for budget subs. The fit and finish are about as cheap as you can get. It's almost embarrassing to take the grille off, what with pieces of velcro attached by staples surrounding the driver. The ace in the hole the sub-1200 had was it was a serviceable 12" sub you could often get at around $100 shipped. You now price this at $150 and you start getting MUCH closer to better subs like the Bic F12 or the V-1220. F12 price fluctuates from around $180-$200. Not only is the F12 a better performing sub, but it actually looks nice, not like something you cobbled together in your garage. F12 also carries a full 5 year warranty, while the sub-1200 only has a 1 year warranty on the amp.

I bought and owned three of the Dayton sub-1200's when they were closer to $100 and they were a great value sub at that price, probably the best entry level sub with all factors considered. At $148, at least in my view after owning three of them, they aren't worth that price. I would GLADLY chip in another $50 to get a Klipsch sub-12 when on sale. That's a much better sub.

I don't know about the F-12 being better, since I've heard it can be boomy and have plenty of port noise. I've also heard it doesn't go as low in a small room. These are others' impressions, though, as I have zero personal experience with it.

The SUB-1200 is my first quality sub and for the $130 I paid my expectations were exceeded. I found that spending some time tweaking gain, crossover, and of course, placement made it sound very good. Granted my last few subs were all cheap HTiB supplied ones, but the 1200 is not cheap in terms of sound quality.

As for how it looks with the cover off, I've never removed it on this sub nor my main speakers so it's not an issue for me. I like protecting the drivers from dust and any accidental impacts/pokes.

Is there anywhere on the Dayton Audio website I can register my SUB-1200?
