I'm bringing my motorcycle helmet when we test n tune so I don't get hit in the face with little Onkyo tweeters....

Make to bring an old helmet. I'd hate to see a new Arai/Shoei/AGV damaged.

Captivator S1's are in stock but ran out of S2 cabinets which should be in by Aug 1st.

Thanks Jeff,
The captivator s2 arrived Friday and looking sexy me and miniht did some test and tune over the weekend sounds amazing in the small room it's in. The power supply was a little loose I put a little electrical tape around it to snug up the fit seems to feel good and work so far. Its Amazing!!! We managed to get authority down to about 6-7 Hertz awesome!

^^ Yeah buddy! The FR was better than expected and don't sell yourself short... you're flat to 5hz. When we messed around with the delay a bit to bring up the xover region a few dB's, your midbass improved a lot. Sure we could get it better... but it sounds great to my ears. I hope you enjoy that beast as much as I enjoy mine!

Jeff, as usual, awesome job on packaging. The S2 arrived blemish free. I dig the new control knobs.. LFE adjust and delay in particular... I don't use EQ so that delay knob would come in handy on my trio, lol. Adjusting the distance and xover and confirming the results with REW can be quite tedious work. Last but not least... I love the new CF dust cap.. super sexy looking! Consider me jelly. Awesome job from start to finish.

Yeah, I'll probably have him redo this one. The dsp settings in that unit was a prototype and measurements do not look like the production units (smoother response, LF adj has more effect and limiter set higher). Burst measurements still ran with other, larger sealed subwoofers.

Dual 21" IPAL drivers in a larger cabinet with 20,000 watts had more topend but 40hz and below was pretty comparable.

Is the S1 basically just 6db less than the S2?

5-6db since it has the 2400 watt amp and larger than half the cabinet volume.

I am thoroughly enjoying the captivator S2!! Even low shelf filtered movies and filtered movies with good output sound so different, don't forget about games either wooot. I am wondering if anyone else has had an issue with the sub shutting off... I'm not sure if it is a possible limiter or a loose connection inside. When I was demoing movies it held up great on hard hitters it chugged right along all day like pixels and full band demo films however there is one scene on the Incredible Hulk and one scene on War of the Worlds where the subwoofers will make a pop and shut off for 10 seconds or so like someone flicked it off like the amp is cutting the power off or something I thought maybe it was a loose power supply and it is not. Any suggestions? Maybe the wall circuit is losing too much power and it's cutting out. I am fairly certain I am not pushing the sub too far with my listening levels. Distortion looked ok when we ran and swept with rew.

Glad to hear your happy with your Captivator S2. Sorry to hear it has shut down on you. If it's not any of the cables or the avr than we might have to get the amp back to SpeakerPower. Shoot me an email.

I think I'm going to give it some more time and testing me and my buddy are pretty convinced it could be a signal issue or maybe even a loose connection

Hmm, so my new house framing is up and windows go in next week. My theatre is small at approx 11"x16.5" with 8" ceilings and will only have one row of seating. Dilemma is should I go an S2 (and possibly a second one later) or 2xS1's? Is an S2 overkill in such a small room (its a suspended floor too )??

If you have freedom of placement, and can put subwoofers where they will perform the best, I'd say go with a pair of S1's. While you may not have many seats to worry about, it's always a good idea to balance out the sound whenever possible.

If you take yourself too seriously, expect me to do the exact opposite

Yep that was my inclination also.

Mixing and matching isn't ideal.

We were trying to get the Captivator S1 tested before the end of the season however it will have to wait until the spring.
