I haven't, but I would love too. Does a properly setup LMS cost as much a Cap S or a SubM?

My pair of LMS's were a little less.

Drivers: $1900
Cabs: $900
Amp: $875
EQ (SMS-1): $225 (used)
Total: $3900

EDIT: Added the cost of my EQ.

The room is going to play a big part in that comparison!

Agreed.

We're suppose to have a GTG here in SoCal in a few months. Hopefully we'll be able to get these subs along with a JTR for a nice little shootout.

Try your darndest to get some CHT stuff there at the CA sub meet - beg, borrow, or steal...

The ongoing belly aching here, and at other forums needs to be soothed ----- or confirmed...

Greg sent me an e-mail again that the knocks on our January KC meet started up once more at CHT forums again today. sigh.

That would be AWESOME if we could get a CHT sub there!

We could use my LG clone amp for power it.

See your GTG thread for the appropriate place to discuss this.

You guys have never heard a CHT system with proper headroom and amp power. I have owned both in the same room for weeks. Again they both have their place.

There is a good question even for the DIY guys, do you get a Cap sealed S2 for $3000 or get a dual LMS5400 for $3600? I would like to see the measurements. People have said they liked the sound quality of the LMS5400 better than their submersives.

Figure 1400 to 1500 or so for each cabinet and driver. Add 600-700ish for a couple of ep4000s or a little more for an LG clone.

There is one thing missing: eq. It is pretty much required to be able to maximize the performance of a sealed sub.

Nah, sticking with sealed for 2 reasons, better and easier to get smooth response and deeper extension.

True, with your room sealed is a no-brainer. Ok, so a couple of cap sealed 2's then??

I had the Cap1000's but I never took detailed measurements or anything because they went to a friend. Whatever I do next will be response, THD, and spl comparsions sub vs sub and then I will compare using the same overall money as well. That is where it becomes hard for the expensive sub because that would mean one sub vs 4 subs.

James,

I'm surprised you have not tried some sealed LMS' 'yet'; seems a natural progression when observing your journey thus far.

I've had a pair in my Parts Express cart for a couple weeks and just keep finding excuses not to hit the button.

I've been happy with Jeff's products in the past, and they continue to occupy my short list of non-diy musings.

I know, like I said before it is more about the journey than the end result. Once you go with LMS5400's where do you go? I like changing out even if it has been a laterally movie experience for a long time now. The differences are just so minimal. Of course this is if you were talking to me.
