I live in an apartment and don't have the room for a large subwoofer. I discovered this when I jumped on a great deal on a JBL ES250PBK 12-Inch on an Amazon lightening deal for $179. It sounded great but was like having a mini-fridge in my living room. I'm also on a tight budget.
I recently tried several Velodyne subs - Impact Mini, (6.5 inch driver) Impact 10, DEQ 8r, and DLS3750 (10-inch). My favorite of the bunch is the DLS3750 but it's much bigger than the Impact 10, which is kind of as big as I want to get and just too large for the space I have. Unfortunately, there is no comparison (in my opinion) in sound quality - the Impact 10 sounds dry and muffled compared to the DLS3750, which just brings everything to life - both HT and music. However, like I said, the DLS3750 is just too big. Also, the DLS 3750 has a remote but not LED like the DEQ series, so there's no way to know what your volume level is.
As for the DEQ8r and the Impact Mini, they have their strong points - the mini has more thump for movies, the DEQ8r seems a bit more musical, but neither has the life/clarity/musicality or the DLS3750.
I was able to get the all four Velodyne subs for under $300 (the DEQ8r was $279; the other three were $299). is there ANYTHING in this price range that has the qualities of the DLS3750 but is closer to the size of the Impact 10?
