I'm resurrecting this thread (and thanks to all who pitched in with suggestions, all of which i checked out) to post that I finally made a decision, and just now ordered an Emotiva X-Ref 10 DSP Powered Subwoofer. http://shop.emotiva.com/collections/...roducts/xref10

All indications are that it will have the kind of accurate, tight musicality I'm looking for, along with the desired modest size and manageable weight. The built-in processing is attractive, as is the fact that it's a US company offering a 30-day return and 5-year warranty policy.

Not a window-rattler or a floor shaker, but hopefully a sub offering the kind of detailed bass for music that I'm looking for.

Wide Awake

on the Edge

of the World

I'd be interested in your impressions when it comes. I'm also toying around with the idea of a musical sun to go with paradigm studio 10s

I'm interested as well. I'll be looking for a 'musical' sub or two soon for a very large room (budget variable but under $2k). I think I've read that Rythmik might be the best for music?

if you are gonna hit the 2k mark, that basically gets you in the price range of a submersive...

I only posted in this thread to drag you off the couch.

Yep, it's definitely on my short list. More aggressive research will begin late this summer. I'm hoping for an autumn bonfire party so that I can watch my Elemental Designs sub go up in flames, so I need to time it right.

Chris-I had the pleasure of listening to my first Submersize HP at the L.A. subwoofer GTG last weekend--what an incredible sub.

With sufficient thrust, pigs fly just fine.
