They're claiming a $220 sub with a single 10" driver is able to hit 20Hz? At -10dB perhaps, but certainly not F3. That's the first I'm hearing of it though, so I don't have any experience with it.

If you take yourself too seriously expect me to do the exact opposite

I guess it has been out for a while now, but haven't heard much besides monoprice's customer reviews. Noted the slot port out the back which you don't see much in low end subs. I currently have 2 AV123 X-sub 8" subs tucked behind my couch, but thought about looking to a single 10" (space for a larger sub is an issue).

Dual 8's to a single 10 might be a step backward in total output. The Monoprice may extend deeper (key word being "may"), but almost for sure the output would be less.

One of the 8 X-subs's been making some buzzing noises lately, and since there isn't anywhere to get them repaired any more, I've started to look into an alternative that won't break my bank & still fit in the room I'm stuck with.

I was on here earlier this year looking for a budget sub. Thought I'd tell you how the story ended.

I had focused on the Bic h100, Bic pl-200 and Dayton. I wanted Svs but couldn't find one used and didn't want to pay that much.

I ended up landing between the two with a STF-2 from Hsu Research for $330.

I'm not your guy to provide a critical review, but will tell you I LOVE it. It makes the house shake when a movie scene demands it and compliments music (rock and classical alike) very nicely and gracefully.

The room is maybe 15 ft x 22 ft x 8 ft tall, with two large openings to other rooms. I sit 14 feet from the plasma. It has never felt underpowered to me.

I'm sure there are much finer subs out there. I am now sure I don't need them. Thanks to all who helped me learn and explore about the world of subs- esp Jim!

Jake

^^^What subs have you owned in the past?
Always love the "it makes the house shake" stories.

Glad you finally settled on one, Jake. Go into the room, look at the sub, and say, "That'll do, pig." Because it will. Solid choice that will hold you until you're ready to upgrade.
