While I have no idea on this subwoofer, it's kinda big. Ordered an compact yamaha sub to to fit inside cabinet. But got this to compare.

Heard it, it's good. But I never owned property sub, so don't know good vs best vs okay. But it is big and I kept 20℅ volume. Anyone got this arena sub experience? Should I keep it?
If you like the JBL keep it. If not you can do better for another $30-$40 but it will likely be even bigger.
Dont know exactly what you mean but its not a good idea to put a sub inside a cabinet.

Was it open box because someone returned it? If so, I wouldn't be surprised - that sub appears to be rather lacking, something the previous owner probably found out in short order. For less money you could have gotten a new Dayton SUB-1200, which I'm sure would out perform the JBL.

Thanks.

It was a floor sample tagged $240. I will try the Dayton. I have another 12 days to return this sub.

Will Amazon RMA with return shipping if I buy Dayton from Amazon? I don't find it in bb for demo.

Cabinet:
Wife asked me to see if we can place the sub in the regular open entertainment center(no closures) bottom shelve (14"h).

But I am thinking about placing sub in room corner to avoid any rattling of devices on shelves.

From aesthetics, she asked me about yamaha YST-FSW050BL2. Is that any good?
http://m.usa.yamaha.com/products/audio-visual/speakers/subwoofers/yst-fsw050.html

I will order Dayton as it was most discussed in this thread. Among BIC America vs Dayton which one do you suggest? I think I will be happy with any upgrade to tv but want to buy sub once.

I doubt Amazon pays return shipping on products, but you never know. I don't think anyone sells the Dayton subwoofers but Dayton and Parts Express, but always use PE because they actually charge less than Dayton does for the exact same thing.

You obviously dont do much business with Amazon.
They pay return shipping on a lot of stuff.
They sell nearly anything. Dayton subs included.

https://www.amazon.com/Dayton-Audio-SUB-1200-12-Inch-Subwoofer/dp/B00669L3HS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1469200185&sr=8-1&keywords=dayton+1200+subwoofer

Good tip about PE though.

Haven't done anything with them in awhile. Once they started charging state tax on purchases I went elsewhere.

Got the Jamo J-12 today and am pretty impressed with it. Sounds good and is strong. This would be a tough sub to beat for $150. Better than the Dayton sub-1200 for sure and likely better than the Klipsch sub-12hg. I would have no problems recommending the J-12 at $150.

I believe the Jamo J-12 is essentially the same sub as the Klipsch reference 12, aka: R-12SW. Specs show the Jamo reaches to 27Hz and the Klipsch to 29Hz, but other than that they are pretty much the same. I bet their frequency range is the same, despite the slight difference in claimed low end. In my short time with the Jamo J-12 I would say the sub certainly does drop off steeply below 30Hz.

Jamo has the J-10/12 and the higher end J-110/112. Klipsch has the R-10/12SW and the higher end R-110/112SW. The Klipsch line also has a 15" model. Both Jamo and Klipsch are owned by Audiovox.

Do you think it surpasses the sub-1200 in its sound quality as well? I found the sub 1200 to be pretty good at accuracy although not much output nor low tuning. If the J-12 is better in every way I would def give it a whirl for 149.

Did you get the apple color? How's the finish look? I didn't find many pictures or reviews online for it, just curious, based on your endorsement of it has me interested to try it!

I would certainly take the Jamo J-12 over the Dayton sub-1200, especially for the same money. I did get the dark apple color and it looks nice for cheap laminate. I would say if you find reviews and/or comments on the Klipsch R-12SW, then you could apply them to the J-12. Same cabinet, amp, port, feet....etc. Here's a pic of mine.

I've had no issues with the auto on/off. Kicks on after a few second of the initial signal and I've never had it kick off while anything was playing. That's not something I could say about the Dayton sub-1200's I owned previously. Dimensions are 18.5" D, not including the grille or jacks on the back. Roughly 20.5" including grille and jacks. 14" W.

EDIT: The J-12 is a bit smaller than the J-112, particularly in width and height. Here's a pic of both.

Thanks! Thats a pretty nicely finished sub for that price. Great to know about the auto on too, I just have to leave my Dayton plugged in and on all the time. This would be a win on all fronts haha.
