I can help you thin down the choices; skip the V-80 and PSW10 for a HT application. Neither of them are really able to provide enough output or depth in that context. If you scan back over the past dozen or so pages you'll find several other oft mentioned alternatives.

If you take yourself too seriously, expect me to do the exact opposite

As Jim mentioned, the Bic V-80 and Polk PSW10 you should pass on. I had the PSW10 and the larger models of the Bic, the V-1020 and V-1220. Both of those Bic subs are good budget subs, but the V-80 will obviously be less impressive. The V-1220 is in your price range, so that wouldn't be a bad option at all. The Dayton sub-1200 is also a solid budget sub. I had three of those at one time, as they were a great value at a little over $100 on sale. I believe they are around $150 now. The appearance of the sub-1200 leaves a lot to be desired, so if appearance is important, it's not a beauty contest winner.

mdram also pointed out the Jamo J-12 for $150. That's another solid option and I bought one about a month ago. Several of these subs are going to be similar in output and extension. Bic F-12 is another good option and has been one of the most popular budget subs for several years. You can get it at jet.com for around $172 if you get the discount for the first 3 purchases made from them. The one that slightly outperforms the pack, at least in my opinion, is the Klipsch sub-12hg. It was often on sale for $170-$200, but it's been a while since it last saw a sale.

Question Help choosing my sub - large room

PSA V3600, JTR Captivator 218, or 2 18" subs???

I have a large room, diagram attached, it's basically 25' by 45' with vaulted ceilings from 8' to 20', it has a pony wall about half way, that separates the HT to the kitchen and dining room.
It also opens up to a loft upstairs which has bedrooms attached to the loft area. All that to say it's a comparatively large area.

My budget for the sub(s) is about 2,000 but is somewhat flexible, I also have no restraints on cabinet size, within reason.

I drove to HSU research in Anaheim to audition their VTF-15Mk2, which was very disappointing to me, so much so that I questioned if they had it hooked up correctly! After reading good reviews of that sub, I decided I'll need something bigger, which is why I'm looking at 18"s now.

I know there's a lot of bass brain power going on here and wanted to get opinions before I pull the trigger on this purchase. I'm trying to figure out if something like the PSA V3600/JTR 218 or 2 V1800s would be better for my room.

I'm also concerned that 2V1800s may not be sufficient and I might need 2 V3600s.

I wouldn't call myself a bass head - I've lived with girly man bass for a long time, but I'm finally ready to get something good.

Thanks in advance for your help.

This thread is dedicated to subwoofers costing $300 or less. For your particular case it would be better to start a new thread so the suggestions/comments can be focused on the subs you're considering.
