why stay under 10"

there is plenty of 10" option that will fit the space and budget constraints wink.gif

That looks like a pretty good deal. If he can hook his speakers up to it then it might be the trick.

Check out the JBL ES subwoofers. Great deal for the money. I did a review of the ES150P here

Take it easy, I didn't say buy an 8". To be clear, I should have said 10" "or under".

It's not that large! But I agree that the design makes it a lot larger than it needs to be. Without the wedge shape, it could have been much smaller and probably have the same results.

I rechecked my measurements.

I can accommodate a sub w a 13.5 in W and 17.5 in D (Height doesn't matter).

It looks like a number of 10" subs will work. I want to stay under $150.

My primary purchase options are Amazon (due to Prime Shipping), Costco, and the occasional website that will offer free (or reasonable) shipping to where I live (Alaska).

These are the three that are catching my eye (based on recent posts and searches)

1. JBL ES150P - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00166VDLC/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER
2. Pinaccle SubSonix 10-200 - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003IT70B2/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER
3. Velodyne VRP - 1000 - http://velodyne.com/special-offers/vrp-1000.html (actually offer free shipping to Alaska)

It looks like the Velodyne only goes down to 35hz, the JBL 27hz and the Pinnacle 26. The JBL has the most RMS power (300) with the Pinnacle coming in at 200 and the Velodyne at 115.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Unfortunately, with living in Alaska - making returns because I don't like it is not much of an option (these would easily be $50+ to ship back).

Thanks!

Bang, thought Costco was a preferred retailer for you, guess it is Amazon, then.

If either of those JBL's had speaker level connections, I would probably buy it right now, thinking I might just get a Dayton Sub-1000 and be done with it.

I thought it was too. smile.gif

They normally do not charge shipping up here.

How much is that b-stock sub? $250?
julaha's Avatar julaha 10:06 AM 07-26-2013
Guys, need some recommendations and advice as well.

Got about usd$300-400 to spend on a sub, dont mind 2nd hand.

In my local 2nd hand market, there is the B&W AS6 for $315, theres the $430 KEF TDM-45, lastly a $220 Whaferdale SW150.
Figured i be getting more bang for buck if i go the 2nd hand route.

Anyway, Room size is bout 4.5m x 2.8m
Main usage is Music. Pairing with my Adam A3X speakers in a nearfield setup. (computer desktop)

Which of these subs will be suitable for my use?
Or if none will be suitable, please let me know as well and i will continue trying to find more alternatives that fits my budget frown.gif

Yep $250 shipped. The NHT Super 8 b-stock is $299, and has a 100Hz fixed high-pass filter, I am curious how that would affect the sound versus a more powerful sub with only a low-pass filter.

Boy that M8 sure looks nice.

Tempting. smile.gif

jim wilson, your page 1 suggestion for Acoustic Sound still works. I ordered a PL-200 for $280, $1 above the minimum acceptable price. Also seems like pretty efficient Cus. Ser.

Thanks, Bill

Hey guys i was directed to this thread, im going to copy/paste my question and hopefully get some more input.

I plan on getting audioengine 5+ and a subwoofer very soon (in the coming 2 weeks)
From what i've seen is that i would probably want to get a subwoofer with those bookshelf speakers due to my music tastes. I already have a usb dac so i wouldnt need that.

-My budget for the subwoofer is ~$300, I am getting the audioengine's for $282 because i work at Best buy, so magnolia product is also discounted as well.
My discount vary's but it ranges from 35% and up depending on the product, I can double check at work for individual speakers and subs.
So all in all my combined budget for the 2.1 system is max $600.

-My room size is 11x10 with 8 foot high ceiling. Im probably going to put the sub under the desk. The absolute max size i would want for a sub is '12 but preferably 10 or 8 sub.

-My uses are going to be %90 music the rest is gaming and movies, but huge emphasis on music. I listen to lots of bass heavy music like old school dubstep, garage, electro, trans and dnb.

-and lastly i'm hoping to get this in the next 2 weeks!

So any input and recommendations would be appreciated!

Bigger driver is better, and more than one sub is better...in principle. For example, I bought a blown 12" Boston Acoustics sub from Craigslist for $50, then put in a new 300 watt Bash amp for $150 from eBay, solid performer on a budget.

Based upon this I assume you want recommendations only for products Magnolia sells? If so, what are the options you're considering?

Partially so, I wouldnt mind recommendations from there but also any input from other brands as well. I've been reading a bit and I'm kind of leaning towards the Outlaw m8, but anything else I should be looking at?

From magnolia the ones I was looking at were: Energy escw-10
Martin logan dynamo 500 or 700
Definitive technology prosub800
JimWilson's Avatar JimWilson 09:20 PM 08-11-2013
If you can get the ML 700 for what you're looking to spend I would probably go that route myself. I reviewed the ML 1500X just recently and really liked what I heard. If the 700 is similar in the design principle then it should do quite well with music.

From my research some time ago, it seemed that the BIC PL-200 was the king of the budget subs. I planned to purchase that sub, but was never able to make the purchase due to life getting in the way. However, it seems that soon I will be able to make a purchase. Aside from the Klipsch RW 12D on sale, is there any other 12" subs that come close to matching/beating the PL-200 in it's price range? I've heard that the RW 12D has been discontinued, which means the crazy sales are probably going to end soon, so I'm thinking I need to pull the trigger on a PL-200 before those also go the way of the dodo, unless there is something else comparable out there I can also consider.
JimWilson's Avatar JimWilson 06:27 AM 08-13-2013
The RW12D has been 'discontinued' for 2 years that I know of, so it's a bit of a misnomer. If you're looking for other potential options check out the NXG NX-BAS-500. That turned out to be a nice little subwoofer.

Question...I have the option of getting a Mirage S8 for $50 and looking at the specs it's says it can go down to 27hz with an 8 inch driver, but I've had my eye on the BIC F12 and from what I've read it's a solid performer for the price. Should I expect a big difference between the two ?...It'll be placed in a fairly large open space (open family room that leads into kitchen and other rooms).

I forgot to mention that I'll be pairing it with Athena bookshelf speakers or I also have the option of pairing it with the mirage nanoset 5.0
