How small is your room (HWD)?

If you take yourself too seriously expect me to do the exact opposite

Since your room is so small you may not benefit from the true value that duals provide, so in this case one better sub is probably the better option.

+1 Especially if properly placed and set up.

I've just received my NXG BAS 500. The moment I turn it on and played some music, i started to hear a rattling noise. Like something loose on the driver. The sound is like something vibrating against the cone as the cone moves. After a closer look, I've found out that the very center of the cone, which looks like its glued on top of the surrounding, is poorly glued and can be lift off with my nail. Only 90 degree of the circle is glued and I can lift the remaining 270 degree off a few mm. If i lightly touch it while music is playing the rattling sound disappears.

After hearing good things on how good it is built and how good it sounds it's kinda disappointing to see it fails on something so simple.
Another thing that might not affect the SQ is how badly the center circle is cut. You can see that in the photos. I don't really mind, just want to point out.

Is this a common problem among budget subwoofer? Is it safe to just glue it myself with some super glue?

Edited: The center circle is called a "dust cap"

I'm thrilled to report that after less then an hour of some light testing and playing, the whole damn circle just came off!! LOL
I have used some double sided tape to reduce the rattling as a quick fix and when I took the front grid off. This happened.

I admit I did play some bassy music along with some light classical but I wasn't trying to shake the house..

But thanks to this.. i can say it is probably safe to glue the circle back on.. (probably easier too)

the black circle is the where the glue took the metallic paint off

It doesn't seem to affect the sound at all as I only found out its gone after I took the grid off

Sound is pretty good from my short listen tho.

Thank you, sir.
I hate to be a pain in the *** but it would be appreciated by all if you could take a tighter close up of the center of the woofer. Especially since your pics are so small.

That center is supposed to act as much more than a dust cover.

Will do.. returned should be no problem.. I've called and asked multiple times if I can return it.
Note that if you get it from Radioshack Online, I was told that the only way I can return it to store is to have it shipped to store in the first place.
If it was shipped to home you'll have to mail it back

I have never bought anything that expensive or big from Radio Shack but I have bought things from them and had it shipped to store and then picked it up there. Usually if you have it shipped to store instead of your home shipping is free. I have never had a problem just taking it back to the store to return it.

I'm a kind of a newbie here trying to find out what would be the best option to improve the quality of my existing HT system (3.1). And because my subwoofer (from a 'HKTS 8' Harman Kardon HTIB package ) died few months ago I'm thinking about replacing the system and would like to start with a subwoofer.

First of all, I have the system set up in a huge open "great room" space that's has two sides wide open to a kitchen, foyer and breakfast room. And the great room (15"x23"x18") has and the total square footage including the kitchen, breakfast room, etc is about 26"x20"x9"). I've read some posts here and found it'd be quite difficult to have good bass to fill in this large space and my budget is limited at $300~$400 for the subwoofer.

I'll be using the system for 75% movie/TV watching and 25% music. If anyone can suggest me a good subwoofer to fulfill my needs, I'd appreciate. By the way, I currently have a Harman Kardon AVR254 receiver, Energy C-50 front speakers and Boston Acoustic center channel (don't know the model name). I did order a pair of Cambridge S30's to replace front speakers. Would I need to replace the receiver and the center channel? Also, would the Cambridge S30's be good addition to my system?

Thanks in advance!

I would look at dual JBL ES250's or even dual BIC F12's because that is a pretty large space. I have heard the PA-150 recommended for large also. Just a few options to consider.

Thanks for the suggestion. Where would be an ideal place to set up the dual subwoofers? And how do I connect them to the receiver?

How would the BIC F12's or PA-150 perform compared to a BIC PL-200? I was able to grab a PL-200 for $249 while it was on sale last weekend on Amazon.com but I can always return it within 30 days.

The PA-150 would be my choice. It has impressive output and would help in a space like that. Eventually you will probably want a second one with such a big space.

Denon AVR-1713 | EMP E55Ti | EMP E56Ci | EMP E5Bi | BIC F-12

I agree. The PA-150 seems the best bet for that large of a room space. From 40hz on up, it has the max output of some of the best much more expensive 12" subs.

Thanks for the suggestion, folks. PA-150 is being sold for $499 on Amazon.com and it's over my budget unfortunately. Do these go on sale from time to time?
