You should send the back and get the two SB-12 NSD's. This is classic example of what when sometimes smaller is better. Apparently to your family members, the Epiks, which isn't a bad choice based on the information you initially provided, are too big and unsightly.

Integrate them (visually and sonically) into your HT system. If your family enjoys good sound as much as you do, you'll be surprised at how quickly size becomes less relevant as satisfaction increases.

Oh, and congrats on the new subs!

Working on strategic placement as we speak. Problem is that we have an open floor plan so the actual room they are in isn't huge but it completely opens to a large kitchen / breakfast area.

So I tried to buy to fill 7000 cubic feet but in the immediate HT room things are a bit cramped. For sure the NSDs from SVS would have looked better, but I already knew that before buying.

If these things are as inert as claimed, a couch side 'end table' is becoming an option!

As was mentioned as soon as you get them connected and put in a movie or favorite musical piece family acceptance will usually subside especially if you pick the wife's favorite.

I'm not so sure if he is complaining . My floor moves on that same exact scene too and all of my subs are on isolation platforms.

Its just from the pressurization of the room. I don't mind it. Honestly its quite awesome.

I loved the "floor effect" I got from my previous - and smaller - subs when my HT set-up was on the main floor of my house. With the move to a dedicated HT room in the basement, I lost that floor effect... ...but gained the space and the justification for buying more powerful subs.

I've decided that I really dislike the floor-shake. Pressurization, body vibrations, sofa vibrations, all good. The floor... its vibration always seems a bit off, and it takes me out of the moment.

I have an Empire end table, works great!

I remember when I got my first powered sub, it was about a 14" cube. My wife wrinkled her nose and complained about how it would ruin the decor. Now I have an Empire and two other subs even larger than that in the same room...Your family will get used to them (I hope....)

Sadly, wife and I had the talk tonight and they are now listed for sale here on AVS. I've already eaten one way shipping cost and while I know Eric will do me right for a return, I'm hoping there is someone in the Atlanta area interested in these two subs. Could try other sites but honestly, it it's going to cost me more to sell them than to return ship them then I'll do the latter

I think because they are sealed and smaller than most ported subs, I'd assumed we'd make it work. But honestly, even I think they look unsightly in our crowded combo living room / TV room.

You should probably post a pic to reassure any prospective buyer.

Exactly. Only willing to sell local (if I'm shipping they're going back to Epik for a full refund) so anybody can look, poke, whatever they want before buying.

Actually have someone interested locally in one of them but didn't get an email response from Epik if the warranty is fully tranferrable.

Definitely a cautionary tale. I take full responsibility for my actions but it's tough to even consider being out $350 in shipping costs for nothing.

I'd be replacing them with dual SVS SB12-NSDs. A whole lot less powerful but a whole lot smaller too. My problem is we have a huge open floor plan that really needs the power of two Empires to fill, but our actual 'living area' is crammed and they just look pretty bad. Even I think so, so you can only imagine what I'm hearing from the rest of the household.

The SB12nsds have great output considering the size but will be no match for the Empires.

Have you considered saving up for a pair of high powered compact subs such as a pair or SVS SB13pluses, HSU ULS 15 dual drives or Rythmik F15s (HP)?.

If you want high output in a small package you will have to spend a bit.

I've seen your CL post tonight. Are they really that big? I see a suggestion for svs13 pluses aren't they big as well?

Also are these the subs having amp issues or was it the legends? Either way the warranty isn't transferable even though you basically just received them?

I would call Epik (not email) and ask them if they would transfer the warranty if you can sell them in the next week or so. Explain that if they can't, you will have to ship them back, that you have no choice because the Empires have a reputation for sometimes having amp problems. So they lose the sale if they won't. They are still within the return period. That's a little different situation from trying to transfer the warranty after that.

No, the SB13+ is not as large as the Epik Empire.

Big is in the eye of the beholder, but the bottom line is that they kind of look like I've acquired two additional small ottomans that are shoved up against the wall. They look quite nice for what they are, just not the best in my space I'm afraid. I also don't like that they only way I can even hope to position them is with one of the woofers from each firing directly into the wall. Doesn't seem like a great idea acoustically.

The SB13-PLUS is a great idea....BUT I talked to SVS before buying the Empires and basically they currently only have them in the cherry side panels and won't have any other options in the near future. They also are a bit more expensive than the dual Empires.

I *think* it is mainly the legends but I'd have to read through a bunch of threads to be sure.

Waiting to get in touch with Chad. I've called a few times and written a few emails. I'm sure I'll be able to figure it out soon. Thanks for all the ideas.

What about keeping one of the Empires? It will have more output than two of the SB12s if you can figure out how to integrate just one of the Empires into your room.

Can't imagine a scenario where it would work out much better for you than just buying direct. I only have another ~130 to lose by shipping them back (for whatever reason when I called Fedex the return shipping is luckily cheaper than the outbound shipping).

The only real way for this to work is a local transaction where I eat the outbound shipping costs, someone else gets brand new Empires that have only been 'unboxed' and I essentially get the cost of the subs back in the transaction.
