I need a new subwoofer (old 8" ported techniques unit is rather lacking and boomy). I was set on a Sunfire SDS-12, however, after searching through the archives here for several days, I'm now leaning towards the Epik legend; however, as expected, I'm a bit overwhelmed with information and want to make sure I'd making an educated decision...

My setup:
Marantz SR5005, BA VR30 mains and matching center, MB quart rears

Room:
tri-level house and "entertainment" room is on lower level and open to kitchen and living room. Entertainment room is roughly 16x12x7 ft (system is on long wall and viewing is on opposite wall 12' away) with 16x4 opening to kitchen and living room which are roughly 800sq ft with vaulted ceiling going from 8' to 20'.

listening type: layman with appreciation of systems way out of my price range...

Use: about 40HT/60 music

Movies will mostly be action movies with lots of explosions etc.

Music is all over the place from classic, country, pop, rock, metal, EDM... lots of 80-90's rock/metal, along with Enigma / Enya type, and have been checking out more EDM / Dubstep types lately. Prefer accurate and tight over boomy.

Location : Corner of room, not the ideal but have a 33" wide, 28" deep, 18" high "pocket" that is really the only place to put the sub.

looks: not really an issue.

budget - max of $600.

Unless you can spend more, I would vote for the Epik Legend or look into the Rythmik FV12. If you can up the budget $50 I would consider the Outlaw LFM1-EX

Along with the subs already suggested another couple worth considering are the HSU VTF-2 and the Premier Acoustics PA-150. The latter unit can often be purchased for 15% or so off list price, making it even less expensive

If you take yourself too seriously expect me to do the exact opposite
