Well a week or two ago I posted on here and likely wasted some you good peoples time. I had some ideas of what I wanted, but was unsure of some things. I have a few more facts now and am wanting to do something. So I am again asking for your thoughts and will really try not to waste your time again
I have a large family room, great room area that is completely open to the kitchen area. The ceiling in this room are vaulted so the walls that are at one end of the room only go up 8 1/2 ft with everything open to the front of the house from there. Best I can figure, the great room area, including the kitchen is just under 10,000^3 ft. I said it was large.
For a number of years I have used a sub with a 12" driver and a ported cabinet. The cabinet size is roughly 15" square and the amp rating says "<10 % THD @ 125w @ 100Hz@ 4 ohms". It's cost was ~ $100. Now maybe I am not a terribly picky guy because for the most part I thought it did ok. I bet I was wrong. The amp has died on my sub.
I use my Yamaha AVR mostly for watching movies, but do also listen to music. I would not say serious listening though. I do have a pair of JBL L100T with 12"drivers that do a good job. Have had them for many years and need to have the surrounds replaced.
I know that I am not going to get that punch to the chest or "pressurize" the room, but I would like to try and make it sound good. At this time I only plan on purchasing one sub and the way I figure, any quality sub should sound amazing compared to what I have had.
My budget is no higher than approx. $1000. For that I could get a hsu VTF-15H, a VTF-3 MK4, or a Outlaw LFM-1 EX. And there are several other that could and maybe should be included in that list. But I am pretty firm on my budget.
I might add that my old sub has been placed in the corner to my left and ahead of where we sit when watching the TV.
So, with all that said, what do you think? I appreciate any thoughts, suggestions and or advice you might share.
