So how does the Calypso sound? Did it turn out the way you hoped?

It sounds really great! I will be hauling all of my equipment in this weekend to see how it really performs and to kill test it as I like to do. It is something I need to do for my own peace of mind. I will be testing its mistake capabilities. Power outage, full volume turn ons and the like. Then I will get on with the final testing. You know that this sub had been tested fully before and it performed better than I had imagined for such a small unit. Now that I have a finished unit I just need to verify and compare my test results. It has a different sound from the Rumba but in my side by side testing the over all out put in my room is very close to the same.

To bad your not in Colorado to join in the fun!

Too bad indeed. It sounds like a lot of fun to sit around with some of those craft brews from your bar and beat the crap out of a subwoofer! tongue.gif

Dual 12's would definitely look better. Just saying... ;-)

I have a hard time believing that dual 8's can reach very deep. Might be good for music in a small room...but for HT I have my doubts my friend.

I agree with you to a point. Many of my customers are looking for that smaller sub. Unlike us many don't want or need the large subs that are out there today. We my friend are lucky to own our homes....but many still rent or live in apartments, condos or attached housing of some sort. This is where these subs usually reside. I truly believe that there is room for all shapes and sizes of sub woofers.

Below are a few pics of the driver and a couple of graphs.

The subs have a vented 10 lbs magnet. 12 spoke cast aluminum basket and dual linear spiders with integrated flat ribbon lead wires for quiet long excursion. The voice coils are high temp copper wire 2 layer coils wound on a black anodized aluminum former for great heat dissipation and high power handling

Here are the driver parameters:

fs 47hz
qms 7
vas .299 ft^3
mms 59.6g
revc 2.88 ohms
qes 1.23
spl 82 db 1W1M
zmax 19 ohms
qts 1
le .5 mh
bl 6.77 TM

This is the designers GP measurement of the test cabinet

Close mic of the driver.

Close mic of the port.

Have a great weekend!

No wimpy drivers here!

I do want to give credit to Paul A. Pierce of http://www.pierceaudioproducts.com/ for the drivers! Built right here in the USA. What a great company to deal with! He has drivers from 8 inch up to 21 inches!

Paul is a great person to deal with. Give his site a look and check out some of his really beastly drivers!

I didn't know Paul had released the 6K drivers. Maybe we should build us an acoustic suspension unit with one of those 100lb, 15" sledgehammers! tongue.gif

Is it possible to buy T-nuts to replace the wood screws that hold my Rumba 12's driver into the cabinet? If so, what size/type/etc would I buy?

Hello Steve!

10-24 t-nuts available at your local Lowes or Home Depot. It is possible to do it just take your time. I don't feel that it is necessary to do unless you are planning to ship the sub or remove the driver multiple times. From my standpoint it was necessary to keep the drivers from ripping out during shipping. It had only happened twice but that is two times to many!smile.gif

Have a good weekend!

I am very interested in the Rumba 12. Can anyone tell me how much the shipping is to 75070? I am trying to save up and need to know how much more the shipping will be over the $550 price tag.

I believe you can add it to your cart on the site and it will calculate shipping prior to payment.

Congrats on your new toy! You'll find Murrel to be a very accommodating person. Make sure you come back and post your impressions after the sub has been broken in and tuned.

So picked up the Rumba 12 yesterday from Murrell. Murrell is a really nice guy!

This thing is every bit of the 75lbs as advertised! It is a beast for its size!!! I put it in my listening position and did the standard sub crawl only to find out that the best spot for THIS guy is behind my listening position in the back rear corner. BUT, it didn’t fair to bad in the same spot that I have/had the PL200. Which is in the front left between the two fronts.

I re-ran Audessey and only adjusted the gain. I used the LFE in and bypassed the input crossover. I left the crossover and level control at 12. These will all get more attention after this thing runs in a bit.

Watch The Hunger Games on Vudu (please no flaming, didn’t want to go to my local Red Box). The Forest Fire scene was really fun!!!

This thing BLOWS the PL200 out of the water! Definitely digs deeper and is more controlled than the PL200. But it should! The drivers aren’t even in the same league. The PL200 is no slouch at the discount price, but it just can’t match what the Rumba 12 can do.

I will post more impressions after I get this thing set up better and I find its final resting place.

Until then, here are a couple of pics of the PL200 and the Rumba 12. Could be an optical illusion, but it looks like the 12” driver in the Rumba is larger than the PL200s 12” driver.

Click on the "Edit" (pencil) icon in the lower-left corner of your post, then click on the "Image" icon (see image, below) located between the "Video" (film strip) and "Attachment (paper clip) icons on the edit window's menu bar.

Ok, so this isn't my first day with Forums and posting pics. I don't know what is going on. I don't have ANY of the edit buttons listed. It could be my works firewall. I will try to post pics tonight from home.

It was great meeting you Monday!

It's a rarity that I actually get to meet a customer face to face. I wish it could happen more often. I glad to hear that the sub is working well in your room!

Enjoy and thanks again!

Can't wait to see the pictures. The PL200 is what I would like to replace with a rumba as well.

I've never experience FULL audio until now. I never knew what I was missing. WOW what a difference.

You're right, the driver in the Rumba does look bigger. Have you run a tape measure across them both to see if that's really the case?

they measure 4.625" from nut to nut on the picture for me >_>

maybe the black ring on the driver (on the bic) makes it look smaller, or maybe the fatter surround does.
