I am 99% set on going with CHT, I am going with 5 SHO-10's. Now I have to decide on which Sub package, I want Duals.

My room is a bonus room over a garage, 14x25 with 8' ceilings (The ceilings slope down to 4' at each side of the 14' width) this makes it under 2800 sq ft.

My thought is the Dual SS-18.1's will be more than enough, but keep reading so many good things about the VS-18.1's. I understand one is ported and the other is not, but am still trying to understand what difference that will make in my room.

80-90% home theater and 10-20 Music

Any opinions would be appreciated.

Thank you

The SHO-10s are sweet speakers. Enjoy!

I have no doubt that dual VS-18.1s would satisfy, but in a 2,800 cu.ft. room with "floor effect" (vibration transmitted through the joists of the suspended floor), dual SS-18.1s will provide more than enough performance.*

*IMO, and based on the performance of:
- my dual SS-18.1s in my ~3,375 cu.ft. basement HT space; and
- my buddy's dual CS-18.1s in his ~2,025 cu.ft. basement HT space.

Since the only people here that are going to recommend this manufacturer are the same people that post on the mfg's official website forums, I think you'll be better served by just asking over there.

I don't post on the ChaseHT forum anymore, so I don't mind offering my opinion on the SS-18.1s to the OP here on AVS.

Because I lost respect for Craig as a result of his mishandling (IMO) of the KC GTG "fiasco".

But I still think CHT makes good products at a good price, and I won't shy away from pointing people in their direction if I think a CHT product might fit the bill for someone.

Thank you, I appreciate your feedback. I did not even think of the Floor Effect aspect.

I am just thinking the VS might be overboard, it is a $450 difference although both options are under my budget.

Is there really such a thing as overboard when it comes to subs? I am loving my dual VS 18.1's.

I hear you, I do not want to have buyers remorse and wish I went with the VS later.

Another vote for the VS-18.1s especially since your preference is 80-90% home theater. It is also good you are listening to advice from actual owners of said products.

I love the low stuff but I think you need more than dual 18.1's to get there sealed so I would go for the dual VS 18.1's and that will get you into the teens and louder levels than the sealed subs can. If you said dual 18.2's I would pick that but dual VS's are my vote.

Funny you say that it is funny how many people do not listen to owners, just go off folks that never even heard them. I have been spending HOURS each night making sure I make the right decision based soley on reading posts of folks that actually own them. NOT 1 bad thing did I find from actual owners about CHT products with the exception of not being the highest in the finish dept and that has been addressed for 2012.

I just ordered 5 SHO-10's with Dual VS-18.1's

This thing is going to ROCK, now on to figuring our the AVR, leaning heavily towards the Denon 4311.

Should have everything set up in the next 3-4 weeks, I will keep you updated.

Thank you again for some of your opinions.
