Other way around. If the sub can't fill the room with bass it might not be good.

But you can easily just put the sub near the listening position and that would be just fine. I did that for some time and was pleased with the results. (2 channel set up of mine)

these powered subwoofers are new to me. Thanks for explaining them. When I was in High school I just used 12 or 15 inch speakers for the bass. A lot of people are using powered subs now.

Who here has heard a Dali sub though? I was thinking about a 10 inch Dali powered sub. I will find a store and ask to hear it sometime. I know that the internet brands have a lot of fans, but I want something that I can hear in a store. Some reviews that I read in the past looked good. I would hear it in person and not always like it.

does that go for any 10 inch powered sub or just dali? I hear that the 10 inch dali isn't as good for movies. It is good for music. It has been years since I have hooked up surround. Has anyone got to hear a Mordaunt Short sub in person?

I posted on here about it, and someone said for the money it doesn't hit that low. they said that it would get loud, but just not real low.

10inch for a really small room is fine for music. Not movies though imho

okay Poke I will try to be positive about the internet brands that you like. I better hear some in store stuff first though. I will try to stop being biased against the internet brands. I wish that I knew someone local who had hsu or svs to hear in person.

Just look at some of the folks here who went from B&M to ID companies

No, it looks like crap, you'd be better off getting this from amazon:

Yea, I've listened to the Aviano7 at a dealer in Portland, and it wasn't nearly as impressive as my SVS ISD-V.

which sounds better to you Rogozhin svs or hsu? I saw someone complain on youtube the other day about a tall 12 inch svs sub was over priced and didn't sound that good. It was the PC12-NSD I think.

If you keep using youtube as a source for advice than you'll never get anything. Pc12s aren't over priced imho and are great performers

I wanted to hear the Dali sub, but it was close to the store closing. I didn't want to bother them with hooking up more stuff. They were patient with me hooking up 4 amps lol. I forgot to ask about subs right away and focused on amps. I lost track of the time. When I asked about subs they showed me a Dali sub that looked nice.

Their amps are still in question. I've owned two subs from them and replaced both amps. They were still under warranty so it wasn't too bad.

if you would take the time to think out a budget, measure your room size, and tell us what % of home theater/music use you will be doing, you wold save yourself the 10000 questions you have asked.

Most of us around here have heard store bought, internet direct, and do it yourself subs. The best value usually goes to diy if you are good at woodworking and have the right tools and knowledge to build your own sub. ID subs almost always are a better value and better sounding then something you can buy in a store.

So hash out that budget and grab us some dimensions! Stat!

Sorry, but eD should be in the "What powered subs have the worst reliability for amps breaking and subs blowing?" column.

So true. The eD owners thread is pretty much a hate-fest these days.

Seems like AV123 set the blueprint for what to look for in a failing ID subwoofer company these days:

Step 1: reduce the size of your product line offerings.
Step 2: start shipping bad amplifiers.
Step 3: customer service goes to crap/stop honoring warranties.
Step 4: go out of business.

IMHO, a lot of sub companies make crappy amps... I know that Polk sub amps seem to fail on their towers and subs. I know of several people of have had their subs die and can't get it fixed after five years. My PSW650 sub stopped accepting any signal but I know the amp was still powering up cuz a thump would be heard when I turned it on. Looking at the Polk forums, I see people reporting other sub issues. Relative to numbers they sell, I think the ratio of failures may be small. Its just a pain when my sub dies.

Another baddie is the Sunfire subs. They seem to develop a mean 60Hz hum after awhile. I have now sent my Sunfire amp in twice for repairs. They have to replace a bunch of caps and regulators to get it working...

If it's not a BIG screen, it's not a theater...

Correct, your not just buying a sub, your buying the customer service too.

thank you Jon S and Hksvr4. I will take Polk, sunfire, and Epik off my list of subs to buy. I did like the sound of the polk 12 inch subs, but I don't want to have the trouble others have had. I did think that epik having two 15 inch subs in the box was cool, but if you had trouble, I will stay sway from it.
