Your budget: ~$200, give or take $100? I want something more than my towers put out, but I don't want the thing to shake my apartment. Just a dedicated sub.
Size requirements/limits: I have no space beside my TV, so it'd probably end up behind the couch (unless you guys can think of something different). AKA, no size requirements. I don't think I'd get a big one with my budget anyways.
Room dimensions: It's an apartment, so it's a living room/dining room combo, but the listening area is approximately 17'x11'.
Primary uses: 70% movies/TV, 25% video games, 5% music. Music isn't a big deal for me whatsoever though.
Listening habits: Once again, I live in an apartment so excessive vibration is a no-no. I understand that bass in non-directional, but - correct me if I'm wrong - would a front firing sub cause less vibration on the ground? I have neighbours below me and above me, but not beside me on either side. Also, I heard that putting a piece of carpet or something similar underneath the subwoofer is good for taking away room vibrations while you still get those low frequencies.
Appearance requirements: As long as it's in a black box, I'm happy.
Timeframe: No timeframe. I'm happily running a 5.0 right now, but I'd like my towers to be focused on mids, while my sub is focused on bass.
Now if you read this and think I don't need a sub, let me know as well because I'm not 100% sure if my reason for wanting one (I'd like my towers to be focused on mids, while my sub is focused on bass) is correct.
