I've got a basement room with a concrete floor. It is 20’ x 17’ with a 6.5’ ceiling. I need a sub primarily for TV and movies. I play the occasional video game, and I rarely listen to music on this setup. I like bass that is moderately loud, but I'm not looking to shake the entire house. I have a $600 budget. I already own a Denon AVR-1712 with Audyssey XT.

So far, I’m thinking about either buying a Dayton Titanic III 12” DIY 500w sub kit ( or a Hsu VTF-2 MK4 (

A friend of mine said you get the most bang for the buck with the Dayton DIY kits and that their speakers are really good, but I don't see many people mentioning them on here, so it makes me wonder. I've seen the VTF-2 recommended as a good bang for the buck, so I don't know which one I'm better off with.

ed, I've already addressed your prior post (twice), but if you are wondering about a VtF2/4,
it will go lower than the Dayton Titanic sub kits for sale. If you budget is $600 then start off
with one VTF2/4, (I've owned one and it's a very good sub) with good output. Try some
aura bass shakers (about $40 ea) and see how you like them. If you need more bass in
the future, add a second VtF2/4. It will even out the bass in your room. smile.gif

hi Ed,

Get the HSU. ... for movies only, it'll go deeper, lower, and louder better.
IMO, YMMV. rolleyes.gif

make your own?

$98 + shipping for nice sealed enclosure

$230 and free shipping for Titanic driver

$250 + free shipping for Inuke DSP 1000 = 1000 watts bridged at four ohm -- great match for you titanic driver with DSP capability of up to eight parametric EQ's per channel.

I'd probably choose this option over either of the others. Finish with the look of your choice. One easy option is the choose your own color deck finish stuff KCNitro07 choose from home depot. It works well...and it starts light in color so they can make it most any color you want, just like buying paint.

KCNitro07 choose autumn brown.
