The size of the post makes it look scarier than it is, It's really not that much work. Thanks for the kudos, definitely makes the effort worth it for me. I rarely cook for myself, always for the folks that enjoy it.

I'm slacking on the review but will get it done.

I've got a couple butts with this recipe on the smoker now... if it's as promised it may become my new Super Bowl centerpiece. Thanks!

Awesome, would love to hear how it turns out, what you think, and if you have any suggestions. I luv some good constructive criticism feedback on my cooks so please don't be shy.

A Boston butt / pork shoulder really is a forgiving piece of meat. Go low and slow, cook to temp (def use a meat thermometer), and it'll be great. It's perfect for gatherings as folks can just make a quick sandwich whenever, I'm thinking about doing egrets chilli again for the big game.

Oh, not sure if this is obvious or not but the bark on the outside stays in too. Great flavor there, sometimes its thick enough I have to chop it up with a knife but keep that stuff in there.

Well the pork was awesome as promised... probably my second favorite recipe of all time behind Alton Brown's pulled pork. I mated it with a tomato and vinegar sauce that I got as a Xmas present and it was very tasty indeed!

Digging up an old thread that I recently stumbled across. Were there write up/impressions? Not sure if it took place in another thread.

Gorilla!  Heard you were the man when it comes to GTG's in the northeast?  How about a GTG for the more moderate priced subs like the more common ID offerings?  Hsu VTF15, PB2000, Rythmik FV15, PSA XV15 etc etc.

At this GTG we had several <1000 ID subs present. TBH my room isn't the most flattering for single subs in that category. tongue.gif

And if his room aint there isn't much hope. wink.gif

If his room had a James Bond name it would be Roomgain Galore.

Room gain below 30hz for sure, but the midbass 40-80hz region seems to disappear quite easily. frown.gif

Maybe we're just used to a ton of firepower on tap.

Nah, it was weak; a quad setup of dual-opposed 18's and a pair of DTS-10's is for wimps. You need more subwoofer for sure... tongue.gif

If you take yourself too seriously expect me to do the exact opposite

DTS-10s were sold in favor of 16 X SI 18s. A fair tradeoff I think. biggrin.gif

I just tried a known hard scene in TIH cop car smash at reference with the subs flat. They are EQ'd with an LT boost to be flat to 4-5hz and I barely hit the -15 dBs LED on the clone and mostly on -20 dBs. Even when I run it 10 dBs hot I still have 5 dBs left which means tons of headroom. Do you guys use all this woofage or have massive rooms? I must be lucky for my small room!

I have a 2525 cu. ft room and start compressing at 16 Hz around 100 dB, although I am still gaining in output.  My highest sweep has me at 103dB at 16 with some more headroom left but I did not go until I completely stopped gaining output.  Might have a couple more dB but that is probably close for me.

You should have a bit more then 105db @ 16hz.

The highest sweep I have done was 103dB at 16 Hz.  I was getting compression at that point, but output was still going up.  However, I also did not have completely clean output anymore....they were grumbling a bit.  Of course, we have to factor in distance as well....mic was 12 feet from one sub, 7 feet from the other, so average distance of 9.5 feet, or 2.9 meters.  This was with the sweeps I did after eq, which was close to 10 dB at 16 Hz.  Not sure if the output would be higher without the eq but I think compression will set in at a similar point, although I may be getting it sooner as I am boosting frequencies below 16 somewhat as well.  I may run a non eq sweep up to max output just for kicks some day.  Output from 2m to 2.9m would drop how much.....6 dB or close to it?

Edit* The New XV15se rolls off quicker then the original, so that is probably spot on far as output @ 16hz.
