DIY is not really my forte. Sorry.

I am leaning toward HSU Research since I own one already for my family room (the STF).

What about two of these? SVS SB12-NSD


My room is about 11 x 17. Subwoofers would be located under the screen.

Those SVS subs are not going to play close to reference. A single HSU VTF-15H or Epik Empire for your price will have more extension and output for low bass.

I don't think the SB12 will give you what you want. Small sealed subs are not for those seeking output, while they are fine subs the HSU VTF15H would destroy them in output. Ed Mullen from SVS has said it takes a pair of SB 12s to match a single PB12 NSD in output.

If the cylinder sub works for you, this is a great value.
