Hi everyone,

My theater room is 17x22x8 and I have been running a old Mirage 8 inch sub, and I feel it's about time to upgrade the sub.

With so many choices it's kind of hard to pick.

I would like to get a larger sub but I don't really need something that go's to deep because I live in a semi detached home, and don't want to totally annoy the neighbours... anyone have any suggestions?

John

Even thou the Mirage 8 inch sub may be good I believe its to small for the size of room you have listed. Do you have a budget in mind?

Heres a few questions that need to be asnwered...

1) Budget?
2) Do you use it primarily fot HT or Music? andbot what percentage...such as (80 HT/ Game & 20 music ? )
3) Is size a matter? ( Such as diamentions? )
4) Color prefernace? Gloss, flat, Black, Wood?

Yes, I agree the Mirage sub was great at it's time and ever since I got my my Yamaha AVR it has improved even more.

My budget is about $500, and I use mostly for HT and gaming. I also listen to music but there is enough bass in my Axiom towers.

Size is a little bit of a concern but I can live with a larger sub.

Wood is fine for the cabinet, not looking for anything special on finish.

A good 10" sub would be ideal but, filling the room with bass in the concern. It always come down to the room.

Well... I can suggest the PA-150 as it can be had for around $380 shipped?? ITs an excellent sub as I have one, but since I have the Outlaw EX I can tell the differnece in performance. THe Outlaw EX digs deep as its performance its excellent in the 18-30hz range. The PA-150's performance hits around the 35 & up area.

Otherwise the Klipsch RDW12 is on sale at New EGG right now for $300 as that seems to be a great deal

The epik looks interesting, but I'm not sure I need all that bass. The price is right for sure.

Extension down to the mid 20's would be ideal. Is that too much to ask?

Which Mirage sub do you have? The Omni S8? If so, how about two Energy S10.3s? Basically the same sub as the Mirage Omni S10 (same parent company reusing designs), and on sale for $199 each this weekend. A dual sub configuration can give you smoother frequency response in your room.

ANY sub that fills the room with adequate bass will annoy neighbors who share adjoining walls--the walls in your room are going to resonate with the bass from your sub and will transmit some of that next door. Perhaps the floor will transmit some sound, too, depending on its construction.

I'm starting to like the dual sub option with an Energy 10 inch sub. Actually I should be able to mate any sub with my Mirage.

Actually there is no sound as far as i know traveling down through the floor. My man cave is in a basement with a cement floor with a think carpet pad and Berber carpet. But I can almost be sure they do hear when Darla is taping on the fish tank.
