$99 Dayton SUB-1000: http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?partnumber=300-628
$99 Polk Audio PSW10: http://www.amazon.com/Polk-Audio-10-Inch-Monitor-Subwoofer/dp/B0002KVQBA/ref=sr_1_4?s=aht&ie=UTF8&qid=1345697459&sr=1-4
$116 Yamaha YST-SW216BL: http://www.amazon.com/Yamaha-YST-SW216BL-Subwoofer/dp/B000FJ89UO/ref=sr_1_7?s=aht&ie=UTF8&qid=1345697459&sr=1-7
$148 BIC Venturi V1020: http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?partnumber=303-430
$167 Velodyne VX11: http://www.amazon.com/Velodyne-VX-11/dp/B002ZBJSIM/ref=sr_1_12?s=aht&ie=UTF8&qid=1345697459&sr=1-12
$199 Energy S10.3: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882269026
$199 Premier Acoustics PA-10W: http://www.amazon.com/Premier-Acoustic-PA-10W-Subwoofer-Black/dp/B001VDGA7M/ref=sr_1_15?s=aht&ie=UTF8&qid=1345697459&sr=1-15

These are the ones I am considering. I would really like to stay closer to 150 (I have a pretty strict budget), but could possibly get the wife to let me spend a bit more. I am sure all of these are better than what I have (HTiB subwoofer [Kenwood 8"]). That's all I am shooting to accomplish. Even though, they would be mis-matched, I could run a pair (with the HTiB sub that I already have.)

Room size is negligible as I live in a town home and rattling the walls would be a bad thing. I have actually thought that I should just keep what I have but it is 12 years old and I thought getting something new and updated would be better. I do use it for HT purposes 60%, 20% video games, and 20% music.

Suggestions?

My choice would be the Energy at $199 as it is a proven great performer for the money. My second and third choice If I had to spend less would be the Velodyne and the Dayton. Go for the Energy if you can.

The only two subs in that list I'm hands-on familiar with are the Polk (which I would not recommend) and the Energy (which I would recommend).

I understand that the Energy sub is really good for that price, but is it TOO much? LIke will I have to ramp up so much that I am going to have angry neighbors?

People who post here go to their neighbors and tell them that they are buying a new subwoofer and to let them know if it is bothering them. Once you clear it with the neighbors, you are golden with the Energy S10.3 smile.gif

The Energy will sound wonderful at lower volume as well.

I have the BIC in my living room setup, and I'm very happy with it. Details on my setup here: http://www.avsforum.com/t/1415304/my-system-and-how-it-got-this-way

I ordered the BIC for 153 from Amazon shipped since I am a Prime member. I do have neighbors to consider and I am sure that the V1020 is an upgrade from my Kenwood SW-23HT 8" 100w sub... I know the Energy comes well recommended and seems to have a lower frequency response than the V1020, but 50 bucks is 50 buck to me right now and I am sure it will be a great sub. Thanks, guys!
