New to the forum although I have been reading many threads over time. Thought it was time I jumped in for some input from some experienced audiophiles. I recently finished my basement and am looking for a sub to complete a 5.1 surround system. The basement set up is a little more difficult in that the room I have the system in is 14' wide by 21' long but is open along the back into another 16' wide x 20' room. The room where the system is has carpet and the other room laminate. Standard 8' drywall ceilings.
Satellites are Definitive Pro 6000's all the way around with a newer Yamaha RX-V571 receiver. I would really like to stay with a 10" sub if possible for size and I will use more for music than movies so control, clarity, speed and musicality are important. Probably 75% music and 25% HT. I do want some depth though and would like a decent hit for overall bass extention. My budget is to try and stay below $500. I know I am not getting the best sub out for this prie and sacrifices will be made. However, for what I am looking for this is the pricepoint I want to stay under. I only want one sub and not run two and I know many of you probably think I am crazy for going 10" vs. 12" but I would like to keep the cabinet fairly small.
The more I review sub the more I get overwhelmed. Some that I think would work well but have not personally heard on my list:
Definitive Pro 1000 ($275 Refurb)
Definitive Super Cube III ($399 New Currently on Amazon)
Velodyne Impact 10 ($260)
Outlaw LF-1 Compact ($330)
HSU STF-2 ($400)
I am driving myself mad
researching and just need to pull the trigger. I don't need to rock my house with my wife and little kids so knocking pictures off the wall isn't a priority and I don't want boomy loose bass. Just looking for clean, tight bass that will sound well with music as well as movies but also not break the bank. I appreciate your input in advance and any other subs to consider that would blend well with the satelittes would be helpful. Also, you won't hurt my feelings..
