I have the onkyo hts 5400 HTiB set up and it came with an upgraded subwoofer from a newer model the skw 591. it is a powered subwoofer and the red led that is suppose to show that it is in a standby mode does not illuminate and the subwoofer seems to be hit or miss as to if it comes alive. when it works the blue Led comes on and it sounds great. this happens most of the time but last night it did not come alive when the receiver was on.

I checked the subwoofer line out signal on the interface menu and it showed it was at + 12 db which seems to me like a good signal going out to the subwoofer to turn it on.

I swapped the RCA cables with known good ones and it made no difference.

I changed where the power cord was plugged into and it made no difference, i even checked the receptacles and they are powered.

whats next other then returning it? how do i check the out put signal from the RCA jack?

thks bob

Well if the red standby LED is not always on then I would say there is something wrong with the amp in the sub. The red light should be lit at all times as long as the power cord is plugged into a live outlet. The blue LED should light when the sub gets enough signal from the receiver to turn on and come out of standby mode.

yeah thats kind of what i thought, i have it in the trunk of may car to take to the shop for a warranty repair. It seems like if there is one known problem with it thats the one that should get resolved first.

how do you trouble shoot the rca signal out just swap with known good units?

Sorry to bump an old thread, but did you ever find out what was the problem, and by swapping to a newer subwoofer did this work perfectly after all?
